A Lot of Snow

We had a lot of snow in the winter of 1970-71. I took this slide about February of 71 showing how deep the ridges were along the municipal road after the graders had struggled their way through with the V plow and wing. There were a few cross country trails cut across the fields that winter as the roads became too much for the graders to keep open. We don't get winters like that anymore.

(quoted from post at 20:33:07 02/22/19) Not doubting your date but the car sure predates the 70's era. You are right about the snow though.

Yes, my dad's 39 Ford was already old even by 1971 standards. Here is a more up to date photo of it from the fall of 2014.

We are close to that again this year. Been a very snowy 6 weeks here, record breaking. After a fairly dry December into January.

They had the small dozers out, pushing the snow back from the road edge where the banks are built up like that, they push it out into the fields.

We are supposed to get 4-12 inches of snow tomorrow, then 45mph winds Sunday, then below zero f temps Monday.

Everyone is kinda nerviuos, to be honest.

In summer of '60,4 of us bought a '39 Fordor and put a two four barrel Olds V-8 in it.Kind
of fierce and fun.I left for USAF and one of the others took it to NIU and enjoyed it!

Rusty I hope the next 45 to 60 days will finally bring you some snow we have gotten a lot of moisture in the last month or so and supposed to get more in the next week

My first car was a black '39 Ford just like that except it was a 2 door. A Deluxe also with the 2 tail lights.

Sitting here watching the video almost freezes me and it is 75 degrees in the house. Outside is 32 degrees and forecast is for 57 degrees this afternoon. Only snow left is the remains of the piles.

The amount of rain we have gotten in the last two weeks I hate to think what that would have been if it had been cold enough to snow. The sea of mud is bad enough. At least the pastures are starting to green up a little.

Well Gene, I was sweating by the time I finished cranking that ice auger through 2 feet of ice. And seriously, ten above feels warm after spending most of the month of February below zero.

Great photo of the cars. I see suicide rear doors on the Ford. Very cool ... and that's the amount of snow that I like to
deal with !!!

Could you guys add your state to these weather reports? This is a world wide site. Kinda funny to read about one entry having his computer covered with snow and the next having it flooded! Western Iowa with 16 inches this week and about 1 inch of rain with 4-6 more inches of snow tonight. And wind, lotsa wind!

(quoted from post at 15:34:04 02/23/19) Will a tractor post hole digger go thru ice?
I think they would need to have a special cutting edge to cut ice. This hand powered unit has a razor sharp edge that really slices into the ice. If I had to do it every day I'd probably want a gas powered unit.
