Saw this--sold the other day out in Colorado for $1800-can't really tell how big it is. I have never seen one with the corner cut out like that-don't know if it was machined or it broke like that. I have a 150 lb. one-had two but sold for $300 20 years ago. Kept the best one. Never saw the price Wiley E. Coyote paid for his Acmes---Tee

My uncle was a welder/blacksmith. At his auction they sold a 340 pound anvil for $3600. Most of the 200 pound anvs sold for around $500 a piece. I got a mouse hole forge anvil from England. Going of makers marks it date between 1829 to 1847. Can't see the very top of the mark to narrow it down more.
 
My guess is, that Wiley e. Bought those anvils by the truck load. He never seemed to run out. Some of my better ideas came from watching Wiley e.,very informative.
 
Us poor folk swipe a piece of railroad track and make it work. The old track is a lot harder than the new continuous weld track they are using now.
 
Could have been cut for some really special purpose but if you look it over I would guess the lamination was broken.
 
I think that tv show Forged in Fire has guys wanting anvils. I?ve had 2 guys call me looking for one. The ones I found locally are not for sale. That?s an interesting show.
 
Auction Zip came up about a auction out in Millersburg Ohio last week-Had a whole bunch of anvils and blacksmith tools. Did not know they made anvils this big, but they sold a 640 lb. one for $4650-Wow-maybe someone can link it---Tee

I have my Dads that he used for shaping shoes when he was shoeing horses, I remember him sticking the heel end of a shoe in the small hole to turn the heel end to fit the heel of a horse. The big square he put like big square end chisel in to cut a shoe heel off if was too long, and like so many others its not for sale.
 
I don't know where you live but around here if try to sell any rail T iron the scrap yard will call police.
 
No they are updating the track to speed up trains and I ask for a scrap piece, its stamped 1943. I did ride down and "find" a 4 foot piece of new track. It was almost a 100 out and that thing was hot,barely got it in back of the ranger.
 
I have my dad's as well. He said he bought it surplus from the railroad. They would use a horse and pull it around wherever needed.

I have dads anvil, it kinda looks like a good one, it was old when I was young. Whenever the 3 feet of snow melts away I need to go see what Mark is on it. There is one tool for it, a chisel I would guess.

As a kid I spent a lot of time flattening nails and other metal shaping on it for no end goal.

I really like the show Forged in Fire.

I've got one that looks like that, but it says Vulcan on the side. Someone left it at a house in town and a real estate guy told me I could have it if I had a way of moving it.
 
I have one that was my grandpa's and was passed down to my dad then to me. Grandpa had draft horses and use to shoe them using this anvil. I wish I would have been able to get some of the things he made in his blacksmith shop. I do have the hammer that he used also
