National Farm Machinery Show

I wondered about the exhaust when I saw that big chrome exhaust pipe
on a Deere posted by Big Tee a few weeks ago.
If there was video or photos showing the rear part of the sled maybe
we could figure the exhaust is going into an exhaust scrubber or something
of that nature.
The last time I attended Tunica, I choked on the exhaust fumes, haven't
been back since.

Don't know, but, I'll bet there is a couple of gunny sacks full of carbon particulate at the end of the day ! Also, never seen a 'pull' that had a bank at the end.

Tractor pull? I wouldn't call it that. What is the point? The few I looked at all look the same (not like a real tractor), sound the same, go the same distance in what seems like the same time. VERY boring.

I wouldn't walk across the street in perfect weather to see that, even if it was free !!!

All tractors now have a exhaust stack that comes up from tractor then turns 90 degrees back over the top of tractor above the driver and extends past the rear of tractor just a little and when hooked to the sled it has a flexible metal hose that comes over top of the exhaustof tractor and sends the smoke and fumes out side,,, the flexible part drags along ground until the end of each pull,, then when sled is pulled back to start positon it drags that way,,,,,BUT 40 years ago there was nothing to get it out side, and if you set in the top rows of freedom hall watching the pulls it became very foggy by the end of the night and you smelled like diesel fumes

Big Dee how about 60 years ago , I was there for the first multi turbo engine to run in Freedom Hall. Blew the celling panels out , like you said back then exhaust fumes were awful. Early days back then you could take a 20 thousand dollar tractor and be completive. Now days takes 100 thousand dollar tractor to even look good.

jm., how many runs do they get out of an engine in that class?

Is it like drag racing, run it once and tear it down?

Or do they keep running until it looses power or fails?

Looks like a very rich mans game!

Thanks for posting. Been a few times myself but not this year. Some need to lighten up and enjoy life a little more. :)

Steve Like I said been 30 years since I had one, Back years ago we might go a whole season on and engine but always kept a spare built, those boys are running multi turbos and close or at 3000 hp. I am sure they monitor things pretty close but they are not tore down after ever pull.

Bingo.

I have absolutely no interest in what they call tractor pulling the days. Reminds me of slot cars.

I lost interest in NASCAR for the same reason after they regulated them into kit cars.

That's what you get when immature people whine, "It's nooooooot faaaaaaaaaaaaair!" when they don't win every time, instead of trying to be competitive in the next pull. The rules committee gets sick of hearing it and lays down the law, so everyone has to run the same thing.

Many people really get off on the "game of inches" that it has become due to this, though. It's not the same guy running away with it week after week because he has the biggest budget and is taking the biggest risks with his equipment. You never know who will win, because it can literally come down to the burrito that the driver ate for lunch.

I've been around pulling for 55 years and have seen everything imaginable happen....I will hopefully be hitting the track in late May with the Pro Field IH that is pictured....It makes about 1000 horses and the former owner parked it 6 years ago with a burnt piston...I'll be dropping down a class with it..

Also pictured is a alky G-1000 MM puller that came apart badly..They are good for 1 run or maybe 100 runs if you get lucky..Several pullers in my area run 2700-3000 horse Pro Stock tractors and if they get lucky can run an entire season with just rolling in a set of bearings every so many passes..A friends 1060 horsepower IH puller made it thru the entire 2018 season with no maintenance..This year he's shooting for 1200 horses..

The tractors in the video are Pro Stocks that make about 3200-3500 horsepower....Some make it an entire season with minimal maintenance while others don't..All national level indoor pulls have sand at the end of the track for safety...One of the pictures at the top of this thread shows the smoke exiting the building at Louisville so thats where it goes...In mid March I'll be attending a big indoor pull at Hale Arena in Kansas City..

The first ever indoor pull at Louisville was in 1969..The first twin turbo tractor was N D Harrisons 220 AC in 1969..Heres a picture I took of it at the 1969 M&W pull..

Hi 1206--How have you been? It was nice talking to you--I wanted to talk more but I think the rest of them would have left me! Did you get some tires on those rims yet? We had a good time in Tulsa-Son won the one jackpot class-I didn't do near as good. Is that a PPL or Outlaw pull in KC? I like your pic. of the MM. That is where they come apart-right above the crank? Girdles and tie bars help...GOOD LUCK---Denny

Hi Dennis,it was nice talking to you..Heres a good picture I got of you and Ray on the Case at Inola on Saturday plus an outdoor shot......I haven't done a thing yet on the IH puller...All parts are here except for the injectors..My MIL has been in and out of the hospital and nursing home several times since Inola and my wife has been in the hospital too..The 3 day pull at KCMO in mid March will have pullers from many organizations all across the midwest, Outlaws,PPL,NTPA,and numerous state level pullers...5-6 pullers from my county are entered..
