no complaints tractor

I have read some posts lately about good or bad tractors. Almost every tractor had a thing about them that someone didn't like. Was there a tractor that just about everyone who owned it loved it? I don't mean YOU love yours, I mean its hard to find someone who would complain about this tractor. I am not sure, but I don't think I have ever ran across someone who didn't like a Ford 5000. I am not sure if I can think of any other tractor to put on this list. I have been twisting wrenches on tractors since the mid 70s so I have seen a few tractors, and talked to thousands of owners. Does anyone else have a tractor for this list?? Al

With this bunch on here it'd be harder to find someone with no complaints about something than it would would to find half a needle in a haystack the size of Kansas.

About the only ones that come to mind for me,both from personal experience and not hearing a lot of complaints would be a 1020-2020 Deere and Oliver Super 55 or 550. Massey 35 or 135 might be right up there, but I don't have any experience with them.

My little D-14 is the most trouble free piece of machinery I've ever owned, but it is lacking a lot of things like power steering, live PTO and hydraulics
I'd have to agree with you Al - I don't think I've ever heard a Ford 5000 owner complain (unless it was a SOS). I spent a lot of time on one as a kid, and I'd love to have one someday.
Pete

20 years after purchase, (not 70) Farmalls and John Deere, and Allis Chalmers, Oliver, and others (please don't think I left your's out) were pretty much good!! Some had issues of operator position, others were under powered for their weight others had power train failures. Mut a G johndrrer and an M farmall were not disgusting tractors. Jim

I think every one of my tractors at some point in time has done something that annoys me or costs money to fix. So no, I don't have a no complaints tractor. I've run this 2090 Case close to 40 years though so it can't be too bad.

Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance makes all the difference on any of the major brands. That being said my 1962 861 Ford, 1956 35 MF and 1995 5610 Ford have all been good tractors with only expected maintenance.

My uncle thought that the Ford 5000 that my cousin bought at auction while he was in Florida was a worthless extravagance. Fast forward six months to silo filling when it took half as long as it did with the old 860 and he was sitting on it with a smile on his face.

Probably depends on what the tractor is used for. My Ford 3000 has served my needs well with little trouble. It has a loader and I have used it for just about everything a tractor can do,

On Fords the 6000 has been hit a lot by others....never had one. 5000 seems to be liked (never had that either) like most of the 1000 series, myself having 2k and 3 k currently and having had half a dozen of the lower hp off and on over the years. The recently purchased 3910, now that I got the vertical muffler installed, is a real honey....the horizontal installation noise was unbearable.

My first two tractors were IH, Farm Super A and '74 464. Just didn't hit it off with me for some reason....only 2 for that badge.

JD 4010 got whacked as a bad buy... JD folks, but I had a '60 something with a JD FEL, Diesel, I really liked as well as the 4020 but it was LP and sucked from a fuel and anything associated with fuel standpoint...my opinion. 4230DC I really liked. Had several MF; TO-20, couple of 35's, very likeable, one Perkie one Continental (recollection) gas, except the operator station was tight as compared to my Fords, big dislike, and my last one had a clutch release tension that was more than my left knee could take....toasted that.

In contrast to your question, I"like" Fords best seems like, for yesterday's tractors.........and you pump input adapter is still working great. Wink!

I had a Ford 6000 Commander for about 3 years, gave me good service great round baling tractor. The only reason I sold it was a guy offered me over 2X what I paid for it.

My 3000, 4000, and 5000 Ford?s are all very good tractors that will work circles around my neighbors tractors of other brands, used to own a 3600 Ford too that was also a very reliable tractor

In the 40 years I have been attempting to be a farmer, I have never seen one. May have been a collector.....collectors have lust in their eyes and if they see it they gotta have it.......isn't that the way it is, you collectors? Grin.

I have one, great little tractor. Doesn’t use much fuel, plenty of power, great size.

One of my favorites for sure, only “complaint” would be the gawdawful seat. But that’s a easy fix that I’ll be remedying hopefully before hay season.

I will say my Dad's F12. He got it in the early 40's used, from a neighbor. Except for oil changes it never gave any problems. He used it up until the early 60's. He cultivated beans, cut beans, and cut hay with it. It's parked now, and locked up. I would like to get it running again someday. Stan

I always find it funny how people will complain about the front post in a soundgaurd cab, but magically the muffler coming through the hood of any other brand is OK even when it's still in the line of sight. For the time they were a quiet solid cab. It took some work, but the AC still works in my 4430 along with the heat, and I would rather do row crop work with it than my dad's tw series fords any day.

I noticed that too. Along with the muffler in the same place as the door post and muffler are in a SG cab, the front corner posts on other cabs of those days were three feet further forward and ran all the way from the ceiling to the platform. So the is a post at 10:30, the muffler at 11:45 and another post at 1:30. I found the extra posts blocked my vision too often.

I guess it all depends on what you and are familiar with.

4600 ford but now i'm wishing for a 4610 with FWA. 4440 jd had tons of problems. alot were fixed when jd came out with the 50 series; so they knew they had problems!

Actually depending on model and year the case was many times quieter than the sound guard with the 870 setting a record, and cases air conditioning worked very good and is reliable. And if the center post is such a good idea why doesn't JD bring it back?

The only case I ever used was a 1570 dishing for my neighbor who grew maters. He was getting chemo so I disced the vines after harvest and dad ran the ripper in a big new holland. I have never sweat so much in my life and that thing was loud, but boy it had the power!

I have a little Kubota B5200 tractor which I bought new in 1987 and still using it. I don't think it would have ever needed repair if I hadn't abused so much using for a tractor more than double it's size, not to mention a gross lack of maintenance. I probably haven't changed the oil more than a half dozen times in thirty years.

I wouldnt have told that on here. Somebody will throw a cross-eyed curse on you. Your tractor might not never crank again. :(

I have a 74 Ford 5000 diesel. It is a great tractor. The only thing I wish was better is the hydraulics. 6gpm is very limiting. Not sure what Ford was thinking.

Im not a big Farmer like alot of you folks but been working on and running equipment biggest part of my life. I love my 135 Massey Gas tractor. Sold my first one years ago missed it so much found another one totally rebuilt it. I work the snot out of it and it just keeps on going. Anything i ask of it ,its willing to oblige. So i have to put 135 Massey Ferguson on the list.

Why doesn't Case IH still make the 2 + 2? Why don't they still offer the torque? Why don't they still have the chicken roost on the side like the DC? Deere must have been doing something right all those years-they out sold the red or orange or white or what ever color they get painted now and are still in business and still NUMBER ONE!!---Tee---------What foreign company owns them now???

Once the intake and exhaust piping got moved from the hood to other areas like a 60 series Deere then the front post becomes a nuisance. I don't notice the post as much on the earlier ones as there was a muffler there anyway. Even the 986 has the exhaust coming out of the hood and is in that same line of sight. I think the curved glass is more of an issue at night than the cab post is any time.
But, to stay somewhat with the original topic, there will never be an overall no complaints tractor everyone will agree upon. My example is my 4430 Deere, while I like it and it has given me great service, and I have no complaints about it, a lot of people say they are junk.

I have an 03 Mahindra E-350DI Will Run a 5ft Bush Hog with Ease,... Very Dependable 35HP Tractor... I Highly Recommend and they have a great Warranty! Larry in N.East

Late model Case 530 or 570 diesel. My 530 will be here as long as I am. Really had good luck with all our Case tractors from the 70 series to the 2590's. Tony

We bought a 1958 Farmall 460 in 1967. It had been around the block, tack read 3999 and wouldn't turn over. We ran that tractor from sun up to well after dark for years.. We were farming seven farms then. It plowed the ground, disced the ground, picked the corn, ran the forage harvester with wagon behind, it baled the hay, ran the haybine, it hauled the wagons. after 43 years of use and abuse i sold it and I think the original TA might have been starting to slip a tad if you didn't snap it from low to high. The 460 was definitely not a powerhouse and the TA got used A LOT. Talk about an energizer bunny. Can't begin to imagine how many hours it clocked. Couple overhauls, 4 or 6 sets of tires. What a tough, tough tractor.

We have a 5600 and a 4600 we use for light duty stuff, both diesels. Everyone seems to love them. Good power, simple, use hardly any fuel, and are pretty nimble little tractors. Everyone especially likes to borrow them! The 5600 has the 3pt snow blower or 8' back blade on it for moving snow usually, and the 4600 has the log splitter on it for the winter.

Well you are hearing a complaint on the 2020 now. Had to use one at work the HI utility model. was a very uncomfortable to operate tractor. My 4000 (4100) Ford that was direct compition was way more comfortable. The 2020 was the model with the 36" tires and Ford had the 38" tires, both 52-55 HP. Also driving my Uncles 3020 turned me against any of the Deeres above 1960. That is why I went strictly to Ford with 2 of the 4100 and a 5100. And I had 2 B and 3 A Deeres and liked them.

Very few Olivers around, omly ones knew anything about were 70, 77 and S55, and a 88 or 60 in the mix, Drove a 77 and was nice. and NO dealers. Untill they started showing up at shows never saw a 4 diget tractor.

Don't have any idea why you needed more hydrolic capacity. my 5000 had plenty for anything I wanted to do with it same a both my 3 cylinder 4000's, one with heavy loader. Both 4000 were the 4100 model and the 5000 was a 5100 model, Just wished the 5000 had more power but it even tho was supposed to have had engine redone when I bought it was like a tired engine.

And I have yet to even seen any Case that new, the 300 Square nose newest I have seen with the C, S, V and D series being it. Just did not sell new at that time and later no dealers.

I had a 1020 for over 30 years. I always liked it. When those 2020s came out, there were guys around here trading their As and Bs in on them and using them as their main tractors.

Congratulations Jon. You just got a taste of what it's like to be me if I ever dare criticize the president.

I have a loader on my 5000. Lifting power is great. Lifting speed is very sloooooooow. That's why I wish it had more than 6gpm.

I don't believe that I've ever posted anything political except to respond to something someone else has said. And I know for a fact that at no time have I ever posted a poke at you for your beliefs just randomly like these folks have done to me. If you think I have targeted you for any reason then I apologize to you for that. That was never my intention. As far as I know I have only responded to something you have said, never bringing it up on my own. You are whining here about not being allowed to have your opinion while saying I have no right to mine. At one point you went so far as to say my children would be ashamed of me.

I have made a commitment to myself to not get involved in political posts here again, I'm hoping I can stick with it.

I do feel this is a different situation tho since these folks randomly post things specifically pointed at me without any provocation from me in advance. I'm sorry you can't see the difference.

Maybe totally wrong Jon but it appears to me that you are one of the least targeted posters on YT

Ordinarily you would be
correct, but I made the
mistake of saying JD was
neither first nor better. I'll
be more careful about that
from now on

I have had a lot of Deere machinery, almost no Case and I have always said it was Johny come lately. Take a row crop cultivating tractor and they were 10 years behind IHC with a tractor that could use a 2 row cultivator. Gas tractors anouther thing. Then on corn binders the person that designed IHC first binder left them and went to Deere to design their binder. Actually very little Case of any kind in my area. But so mant things Deere had waited on somebody to get things on the market. Balers anouther item, years after New holland had a twine baler till deere had one.

No, say what you think and what you feel. If others don't like it that's on them.

You strike me as a man with broad shoulders who can handle whatever is brought to you, don't let anyone get to you just because they don't like your opinions.

What may be comfortabl to you may not be to me. Example the AC WC & WD tractors, I could never stand to set in that position but some think they are the most comfortable tractor ever made.
