Farmall Super C

I drove up to the tractor store this morning to pick out the Farmall H I am going to buy. Unfortunately, the one H I was looking at has transmission problems. However, I found an even nicer Farmall Super C for sale also for $1000. It looks very nice, it drives nicely when I drove it, and there is no major rust. The tires are very nice, with one of them lightly used and the other one practically new. Too bad they are mismatched tires, but other than that, I am very happy with the tires.

Anyways, the Farmall Super C I am having hauled home this Saturday (hopefully) has a hydraulic pump. What are the specifications of this hydraulic pump? I want to run a log splitter with it.

I will post a couple pictures soon of the tractor I am buying.

John

If it's the standard hydraulic pump on a Super C it will not have the pressure or volume to run much of a wood splitter,
but you could use a PTO pump.

I doubt you'll be able to run a log
splitter off the hydraulics but other than
that a c is a handy tractor in smaller
areas and still big enough to get work
done.

SC doesn't have near enough hydraulics for a log splitter. Not enough flow or reservoir.Probably not enough pressure either. Plus, the system is 'closed'meaning it is for the lift only. No remotes are provided or available. It was not designed to provide any remote hydraulics. You will need a pto pump to run a splitter from that tractor. That said,a SC is a fine little tractor.Great starter tractor.

If it has a fasthitch it will be about the handiest little tractor you could have.

I had the blade for probably fifteen years before I figured out it's a IH #72 but I never found any lift linkage for it. The chains work ok.

I think the super C will be a
better tractor for your first one.
Smaller,lighter, not a bad deal.
We gonna need pictures..........

I have a 49 C, great little workhorse. If you're talking about the hydraulic pump below the distributor, you won't be able to do much other than work the mid lift arms. There aren't any remote ports on the tractor and the entire hydraulic reservior capacity is is less than 2 gallons (it is under your gas tank).

Here are some pictures.

No fast hitch, but the tractor store has one on another non running tractor that he said I could buy for a good deal eventually and install on mine.

Oh my ! I hope you don't start an uproar with that blk. face makeup on ! lol. You will be in trouble like the Gov. of Va.

I too think the C will be better suited to what you are wanting to do for now. Also better suited for a belly mower as the tractor is lighter weight.

It seems like I made the right choice going with the Super C. Slightly smaller so it will work nicely for me.

Looking at that one photo, if those three guys are planning on robbing a bank they should get something a
bit faster for a getaway vehicle.

Haha! My grandpa is experienced with tractors so he test drove it for me.

I mounted a vertical log splitter on my Super C. It had the 2-way hydraulic valve for the fast hitch, but not the fast hitch itself. I just ran hoses from that valve directly to the splitter and mounted a long rod to the lever for the valve. Instead of the 3PH mount on the splitter I sectioned 2 baler knotter needle yokes and attached them to the drawbar holes at the back of the differential. Then I ran a long rod (made from the needle arm) from one rockshaft to one of those yokes to lift the splitter. I found that very handy, I could back up to any round and split it without ever having to lift it. I also used it to dismount junk tires from their rims. Sorry I don't have any pictures and no longer have the tractor.

I did it and it worked (see above). Enough power to split 2 foot diameter hard maple with no problem. It probably ran a little slower than some splitters, but then I work pretty slow too. I used that to split 7 full cords of 24 inch firewood for several decades.

How much more oil/flow/pressure does it take to run a log splitter than a loader? We had a new 53 Super C that came with a loader, 2 point plow, planter, cultivator, sickle mower and a rear blade, it wore out every thing except the plow and wore out two or three loaders. I think the last loader had about a four inch tube between the loader frame work over the rear of the gas tank used as an oil reservoir and tapped in to the tractor hyd. under the gas tank. That tractor cleaned three barns, a big cattle shed and what ever else a loader could be used for.

Come to think of it the Super C I have had two hose connectors coming off the hyd. valve to plug a cylinder into, one of the first farmer modifications I got rid of.

I have a Super C and I love it. It looks like your paint problems are over. In
the picture it looks pretty shiny. I think you will be happier with the C. Good
luck, keep us posted with your progress, Chip

The paint is decent on the Super C. It is peeling in places and whoever painted it did not scrape off the paint underneath, so it does not look great. Some areas almost look brushed on. To be honest, I am looking forward to painting.

Also, I just remembered that the tractor has front and rear wheel weights on it. Those are a bonus, so I am quite happy with the price at $1000.

(quoted from post at 22:41:45 02/14/19) Why black out y'all's faces?

I guess I could have left my face as is, but the other two people were my grandfather and an employee of the tractor store, neither of whom would probably want to be put on the internet. Just out of respect to them.
