Saw a posting for a Champion dual fuel 9000w for $600. Does anyone have experience with these? What do you think? What is run time before it needs to shut down? Thanks.

I don't think generators "need" to be shut down after a certain amount of time. I have 6.5 HP Briggs powered Coleman generator at my off the grid hunting camp. I have rigged it up to a 2 gallon external fuel tank so it can run over 4 hours at a stretch and the external tank is outside the generator shed so I can safely refuel without shutting down the generator.

I don't have any problems running that Briggs engine all day. It's air cooled and I have a separate cooling fan blowing on it. It does not use any oil, but I run 10W30 synthetic and change about every 40 hours.

I think the main thing is that the generator itself has a finite lifespan before it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Every hour you put on the unit is an hour closer to using it up. So I'm sure I will eventually wear out the generator unit long before the motor gives out.

(quoted from post at 22:58:24 02/12/19) My manual on the Yamaha 5k says to shut it down after 6 hours.

What is the reason for that , do you have any idea?

I have a Champion 41311 7000/6000. I just double checked my manual and there is no mention of recommended runtime or a “rest” period.

How long will the Yamaha run on a tank of fuel? Maybe the manual is just recommending it to be shut down prior to it running out of fuel so it does not surprise the user in the middle of a task. They may not recommend running it out of fuel. If the manufacturer feels it needs to be shutdown periodically for some reason I would like to know why, maybe check the crankcase oil level?
