Old Farmall M Photo

A photo here of one of my uncles with their Farmall M. Winter shot from the late 1950s. Probably early winter as there is not much snow around.

I really know nothing about the Farmall M as that one left before I can recall noticing tractors. Maybe it was like the DC4 Case tractors as I know the crank could lock in the up position when not used. Less likely to catch on something as it might when pointing downwards. No doubt some Farmall fans here will be able to explain it.

Perhaps the picture was taken when the tractor was about to be started? The crank on those was removable so I can?t think why it would be left on unless it was pictured mid starting process. Sam

That is a possibility I never considered. Maybe he had stopped for a smoke and a rest while trying to start the M. From little I know they were a pretty good starting tractor.

Looks like my old M right now - without the crank. Right now it has a feed sack covering the radiator.
Even grinding feed it struggles to get into the run area on the gauge and it warms up better than any M
I?ve ever had.
