Guys give me your thoughts on two ebay issues

First I bought a tool I wanted (not a costly one) some time went buy and I get a notice. They had closed sellers account due to suspicious activity. He had not shipped it and I will get my money back from ebay so no real problem there, just wanted the tool. Well this has happened to a few other people. Can any of you figure this out?
Second You buy an item, tractor part in this case. It is listed as being in the USA then you get a notice it is being shipped from some Asian country, by international e packet or some such. It is clear the seller is in another country not USA. This one perturbs me as it is shady. Often I search USA only as I do not want to deal with other countries. Your thoughts?

I've only order from ebay two or three times. Sounds like shady sellers in both cases. Second case, he's likely selling Chinese-made junk passed off as USA figuring you won't know the difference. Just my guess.

I also search USA only and have had one item come from across the pond,I now pay attention if it is from California,I think they are linked somehow,as for the shady sale I also had that one time and the item was ordered from E-bay but came in Home Depot packaging, not sure what that was all about but the sellers account was closed shortly after.

Many folks have found that they can make money with zero investment. They'll keep an eye out for good deals on websites such as Home Depot, Fleet Farm, and many others. When they find a good deal, they'll list it at a higher price on, say, Amazon. They may still have the lowest price on Amazon, so the buyer will be happy for the deal. Saves the average person a lot of time shopping around the many different online stores for the best deal.

As for your part coming from overseas, this is real common. Often, a USA-based person will advertise an item. Then their connection overseas will ship. They find all sorts of ways to circumvent the rules, and usually people don't complain. So, it continues.

I've never bought an item that ebay pulled the plug on the seller but I've bid on several items over the years they have canceled. As poor as customer service is at ebay I'm surprised they stay on top of things as well as they do.

I would think the seller misrepresenting their location would be misconduct. About all you could do is report them. Unless it's something I'm in no hurry for I never buy from a foreign vendor.

I bought something, I forget what, got it, ebay said seller bad, repaid me money.
O well, I still had the item and my money.

On the second one, check to see if the item is on Amazon for less than what you paid. There are actually people on ebay who are selling items they do not and never have had possession of nor do they have a relationship with the manufacturer. They simply find it on Amazon, then list it for more on ebay. When you buy it they order it from Amazon and have it shipped to you, then pay the lower amount. I had a kid in Canada doing this on a DVD set I was ordering piecemeal. He sold me a few seasons over a year, then graduated from college and got a real job. At that point he confessed what he had been doing and referred me to the actual seller...a DVD discount warehouse. The kid took me for most of a $100 over a one year period...but he fessed up and I paid a lot less for the remainder of the set...and learned a valuable lesson...shop around.

There are tons of ways to “flip” an item, buybit cheap and then resell on eBay or amazon. My wife used to go into Barnes and noble and buy books that’s ere on sale like 50% or more off. Then she would list them on Amazon at a higher price usually only a few bucks and she would sell every book every time. She didn’t make tons of money but I can see how it would be easy to scale up the book selling and selling other items.

The shipment from overseas has only happened to me once on Amazon. Bought a Christmas present for one of my kids and after I purchased got a notice it was coming from overseas. Didn’t arrive in the timeline it was supposed to so I cancelled payment .

I think what this person was doing was that they may be in the US but have a contact overseas with the toy manufacturer. I pay the seller and then the seller places the order from the overseas manufacturer and uses by address to kind of “drop ship” the item.

US search doesn't help.
I purchased a water pump for my skid steer with Perkins engine.
The ebay location said Indianapolis, when it arrived the return label said Miami, yep China made.
The pump was defective and I requested a return address, they gave me a address in China that would have cost me nearly as much to ship the pump there as what I paid for it.
I replied that I had purchased the pump from a US address and by law they had to provide a US return address.
They sent me a paid RMA to send the pump to LA,Ca., took another 2 weeks to get a refund

Took nearly 3 weeks and getting another pump from a dealer 200 miles away to get my skid steer going.
Later I found out Perkins has a parts warehouse 40 miles from my home, that really ticked me off.

This is about as simple a thought that I can reply with ...... "Caveat Emptor" .... I'm glad you still have your money !!!

if you don't mind waiting, the stuff you buy from overseas is way cheaper and ebay still covers you.

Ebay itself does not sell anything. Everything is consigned from folks like you and me. Most of us are honest. Unfortunately some are not so honest. I gave up trying to sort them out and simply do not go to ebay anymore.

(quoted from post at 09:18:52 02/10/19) On the second one, check to see if the item is on Amazon for less than what you paid. You're being a little harsh here. The kid didn't "take" you for anything. He offered an item for sale, and you bought based on your market research.

Commerce is built on buying and selling and smart sellers don't even have to buy before they sell. I don't know what business you are in but I know guys who buy and sell hay without ever picking it up, and the seller is glad because he didn't have to deal with the buyers. It is not unethical or illegal, just the way business works. The people doing the leg work make the money.

Lot's of companies don't make anything, and when they sell it, they order it from a warehouse and ship it to you. Try buying a brass pipe fitting from Home Depot instead of eBay. They both will have come from China, and if you want to wait you get the cheapest price epacket directly from China or Hong Kong. Go ahead and Buy American at HD to pay them the markup.

I've had more than 1,000 buying and selling transactions on eBay and never had a glitch that wasn't taken care of in a timely manner. gm

Bought a skid tank fuel pump once, ebay cancelled the sale cause the seller was shady...but I figured something would happen, as the purchase price was about half what everybody else was selling it for. No problem, got my money back.

I'm in a deal right now...bought an item, guaranteed delivery by Feb 7th. Emailed seller that I didn't get it, discovered seller is in Thailand. Also, seller just started getting bad reviews for non delivery...of course, right after I bought it.

But I'm not worried, I'll get my money back.

I too tend to select North America if i'm searching for an item that I need fairly quickly...but if they don't/won't give me an estimated delivery date, I'll pass. Did they give you a delivery date in the ad? Most stuff I've gotten directly from China takes a looooong time to get here.

So yeah, there's shady sellers on ebay just like everyplace else...but I've never gotten taken, always got reimbursed.

Did I upset you with my story? I thought it was kind of funny at the time...nothing to get all teary about. It was many years ago. I did read a story the end of last year, however, about how this particular practice is harming Amazon sellers. You can Google it because I am not going to discuss it with you. I just don't have the patience anymore for people who pump themselves up by picking apart what other people say. Neither did I ask you for a lesson in business administration, I already have a degree in that. This thread has an OP. Talk to him, not me.

I have had the issue with overseas sources that were listed as product being in the USA. I always search based on product being in the US, so this upsets me, but I have not found a way to avoid it. I tried contacting Ebay for advice, but never received a response.

My wife used to order small items that she knew came from china and received them. For the past year she gets small packages in mail from China she didn't order and they will have our address on them except we live in TN and packages have Maine on them but rest of address is the same including zip. sometimes there is something in the pkg and many times an empty pkg. Post office can't do anything they say. doesn't cost her anything but annoyance.
