In one of the IHC photo books I have someplace, there is more photos of that man unloading that tractor, with his wife standing beside him. I have someplace ??

That's it I want one now. I've always wanted an 886 or better yet a hydro 186. I think they would be great planting, baling, and feeding tractors. Gotta be better than the little jd 2510 I fed with yesterday in 0 degree weather.

My 1986 was delivered new on a truck like that in 1978. Very few dealers in this area had semis back then.

No offence SV but I like this one better--Out with the red--in with the green!---Tee

My dad bought a brand new 986 and they hit a railroad underpass and broke off the muffler and manifold when they were delivering it. The tractor did not stay around too long, dad always hated they way it shifted.

I always like to see pics of new tractors being delivered. A family friend left me his old pics when he died and I have several of his new 1968 3020 and a four bottom plow being unloaded from the dealers rollback truck. Tom

I bought a IH 1086 brand new in 1979. That was the worse riding tractor I every tried to farm with. Then add in the cab and shifter issues it was not nice. My wife told me after the first spring that she was not doing anymore field work in it as it as it beat her to death. Sold it with only 120 hours on it and bought a JD 4440 with 250 hours on it. I still own the JD 4440.

The trick was to back the truck rear axle into a shallow ditch to take some height away.
Otherwise, it was really step like the pictures above.

I've run lots of 86 series tractors. Nice tractors, but I prefer my 56 series. However,I agree JD does have a better cab and is more 'operator friendly'.

Great video. I will have to watch it all the way thru later. Already in appointments this AM and did not have time. I have a 1586 with duals that does all my tillage, planting, pulls down ash trees. Yes...the doors are a little stupid. I don't quite get the shifting issue. Doesn't bother me. Maybe someone can explain to me what the problem is. Good reliable tractor and, so far, have been able to fix what ails it.

Good thing he's unloading the 3020, I doubt it could back up onto the truck. Dad had a 450 gas for 4 years. Burned a lot of gas but did a lot of work. 4010 diesel that replaced was a piece of junk. It was a good day if you didn't have to walk home.

My Dad bought a new 886 in '77 or '78. I remember he drove it home from the local dealership. Wow was I impressed by that thing at 12 years old or so. He always said he should have gotten the 986 instead as the 886 was a little under powered for the 4 x 18 plow he got with it. Yes the doors were awkward and the shifter was clumsy, but I don't recall if the ride was rough or not. AC , heat and a FM radio were sure nice to me as a kid.
