I've just finished replacing the hoses on my 1963 Ford 4000 Industrial and while I'm at it, I wanna change the hydraulic fluid AND the transmission / rear end fluid,....my question is, I bought a 5 gal bucket of " universal tractor trans / hydraulic fluid. I'm not real sure WHERE to use this stuff,....# 1 I have a gear box with a filler cap right at the gear shifter, # 3 I've got another "filler cap at what I presume is the "rear end", and I've got another filler cap # 2 between these two...........can I use this universal fluid on all 3 of these ? OR, do I need hydraulic fluid AND "gear oil " ?.......
thanx in advance for any help on this...............I THINK I'm on my way to tractor supply for the last few "parts / pieces " to wrap this project up.........been a LONG time coming, this is ALL "stuff" I SHOULD have addressed long ago !.

Use UTF everywhere but your engine.
Loader, transmission, rear end and power
steering if you have it.
Don't forget to lube your steering gear
box too. That uses 80W90.

(quoted from post at 11:20:15 02/08/19) I was advised to use the same thing in all three boxes, in case the seals between them were less than perfect.

Thank s Bob,.........these forums and guy's like you have been REALLY a great help !

Thank you sir,.......I didn't even give a thought to the steering box,.....ALL of this started when I decided to "fix" one of the power steering cylinders,....and then figured I might as well "fix" one of the cylinders on the gannon box,.....an THEN might as well get a carburetor kit, ..........an THEN.....................I don't EVEN know how much I'm into this project for, BUT, I'm SURE my wife of 44 years will let me know when the credit card bill comes in !.....:)

I don't know much about those Ford's but I wonder if there are some suction screens that need cleaned and or a filter to be changed ?

There is a story there. My 2000 has the hydraulic pump mounted at the rear of the engine on the left side, hoses go across to the right side, THROUGH the bottom of the tranny sump and back to the hydraulic section.

Upon performing routine maint., I pulled the full plug on the side of the tranny and out comes a bunch of oil....figured out it was hydraulic fluid from the hyd. sump....which is different from the differential sump. Both tranny and diff were gear oil at time of mfgr.

Since my tranny had been working just fine with 134AB for who knows how many years, and later model tractors of higher hp, like the '65 3000 used UTF everywhere, in went UTF. Sound Guy hit on my problem years ago in that over the years those pipes going through the tranny gear box develop holes from rust....since oil float and water sinks and surrounds the pipes if you don't drain periodically, and rusts them. Not worth a split to fix that, just drain in a clean container, strain and return it to it's rightful sump.
