Cute little crane on online auction

Neat little machine, probably enjoys smooth, level ground. Looks like a good deal for a local buyer.

used to have one like that in the old yard where I worked, pretty handy.
Wonder what the Briggs is for, pump of some kind?

I had a few friends that worked at Pettibone through the '60's in Baraga, MI, in the Upper Peninsula. The company is still there. I see there is a 14% buyers PUNISHMENT imposed by this auctioneer.

We call that a carry deck crane. Original design was by Drott. You can pick up whatever and set it on the deck to transport. Especially handy for joints of pipe. Most oil refineries have them. They actually negotiate graveled areas just fine with the big tires, but most are designed so they don't need outriggers.

I got addicted to this little crane, see it sold for right around $2K. Even with auction fees and tax it's probably a very good deal.

More interesting for me was the 30 ton hydraulic truck crane. That must have had a massive price tag when new. Starts and drives and operates. Ad said it had all new rubber which would mean 12 new tires. Sold for $9400. So, with the auction fee and whatever NY sales tax is, it was probably around $10,500-$11,000. About the price of a used compact car.

Always fascinating for me how much a piece of equipment like this depreciates as it nears the end of its useful life.
