Trying to buy stuff....flaky sellers

I've noticed a new trend, especially on any of the Facebook tractor groups, if a seller has something for sale, and I want to buy it it's like the seller just plays it like I'm not serious. I mean I've told a couple guys I have the cash, let me know when to show up and they act apathetic! I mean if someone told me they had cash and when to show up....sure I'd sell it if I was selling something.

What am I missing here with the new Facebook culture? Are people just posting tractors for sale on FB as a sort of ego boost to see how many people want it? I'm perplexed.

I don't use or visit Facebook but I do have a question. Is there a selling/buying section that is organized into categories of items or however that is usually handled? And you would have to be a registered Facebook person to use the contact service right? So if you were looking to buy some tractor tires for example, how would you go about doing that?

Emailing and texting have NO commitment. If sellers would show location state is fine and a contact # I think things would work better.
I had a guy looking for a hard to find part, I took a couple days to find it and I had it. Pretty much dropped it in his lap and he never posted back. So I caulk it up to lost connection. If you don't give or get proper contact how can you follow up on it.

I was on Facebook a long time. Sold several parts. They have some auctions specializing in Deere or IH, whatever. Pretty good sites. Lots of tractor sites, many oriented toward one brand or another. Like CL or ebay there are folks that don't do what they say or are just bull shooters. I got off because too many people want to be friends and you spend so much time blocking, deleting or generally struggling with idiots.

The only way i do business is by text or email if someone only does business by phone call I usually find somewhere else to get the part

Facebook has a big classified section. They have kind of taken over what e-bay quit a while back. e-bay used to have a good classification system, Antique Tractors, Modern Tractors, Machinery, Parts, etc, but they don't have that of recent. Facebook today has 14 new Allis Chalmers listings, e-bay one.

I?ve never gotten on Facebook for the reasons you lost. I?ve watched some of my friends fall into that well.....

From viewing without being registered, it seems very disorganized, I don?t know how one would find anything. A bunch of unrelated pages. No classifieds or anything. It must show up different if you are registered?

eBay sucks. I have a neighbor that had a eBay store, doing 60k per month. He quit, after eBay fees reduced his profits to near zero. I?ve sold some stuff on Craigslist, but flaky buyers are common there.

I'll agree on that I dont really have time to sit around an talk. The thing I hate more than anything is when the seller will not put a price on the ad. That's 95% of whether someone will buy it or not.

HOW DO YOU EVEN GET ON FACEBOOK? That stuff agrivates me when all goverments want to put out information only on the facebook that I know of NO one using it. Last year bought a hay rake off of Craigs list, seller told me they had it listed for quite a while on facebook and no callers. Price was so good I bought it right now without trying to get the price down. Good for me that nobody was using facebook. When I tried to find a way to see goverment listings and things like that it seemed they wanted your entire life history plus everybody you ever knew and then wanted more money to see that stuff than your home was worth. Only thing I would ever have looked at is Goverment, bussiness or classified. I would never do the chat and friend of it.

No text, don't have it. email 99.99% of time. Have a special phone for hard of hearing. When they only want to talk when you cannot hear them I call that a flaky seller. Items I was very interested in I just forgot about because of that behaveior.

Around me that face book market has taken over from newspapers and craigslist!! Like any venue it has its faults. I have tried to call sellers years ago and they would not return my call. Another one is not putting a price in the ad that one gets me. Or not knowing what they want for the item. Don't get to wound up just move on.

I see it all the time.

Lawn tractor at a good price on Craig's List. I call and tell the guy I'd like to come see get it. If he wants I'll come right then (late evening). No, how about tomorrow AM. I said 8am? and we agree on 8:30. I could tell he was a bit of a flake already so I tell him I'll call him at 8am to let him know I'm on the way. At 7:30 I get a call from him asking if I'm coming--YES I'll see you at 8:30. He says ok. Ten minutes later I get a text message from him that he's got to run into town and could we make it closer to 9am. Sure I reply. Then at about 8:30 I get a text that things are taking longer than he thought and could he call me when he got back. Sure (I'm getting annoyed but whatever). By noon I text him not to forget to let me know when he's ready. No reply and I never heard anything from him since. The post was removed later that day. WTF! I had full asking price in hand, in cash, with ramps loaded in my truck already to go get it.

Another posting for shelving on CL. Great price. I call and talk to the guy who says he's not at that location. I say just let me know when and I'll meet you there that I want them. He replies he really wanted to get them moved to his shop (30 miles away) and then he'd relist them. Well I'd save him the trouble of hauling them just let me know. No No he wanted to get them to his shop first. Well call me when you do. He replies just check back with him. A week later I see the post is still on CL and the location has changed. I called but I'm told he actually hasn't moved them yet and that he would be doing so (well at this point a week ago) and he would call me when he had them moved. Still no word.

I think it's become to easy to list things for sale because obviously they list them on a whim and then are too busy to be bothered to return messages or let you pick things up or... And it's experiencing this kind of crap that keeps people from responding to my for sale ads. And I'm the kind of person that answers the phone at the grocery store and after hearing they're on the way I cut my trip short and head home to meet them. Call me at 10:30pm and want to come get a ladder that night--sure come on by. You want to come at 7am, sure. After 11pm or before 7am thankfully hasn't been requested yet. :)
