Do any of you use a portable oxygen generator for COPD while driving tractor or mower? I need extra oxygen and am curious about
buying a small portable unit. I would like to hear about your experiences including pro and cons and any you might recommend.
Thank you in advance for answers.

I Have IPF a uncureable lung condition , I Have 4 liter tanks , can not get small ones because they do not put out enough ox,
Portable unit cost a WHOLE bunch , unless u get a Doctor to order one for u , Not being Snoopy , but if your a Vet the VA might help

My Father used one for 2 years and found it OK for stationary use. His was a suitcase sized unit. There are small units. The one I linked to ways 5 pounds, and can run from a vehicle battery or added small battery. Staying active is the key to staying operational. (I am not endorsing the one in the link, it was just small) Jim
one with 12v power input

I have a portable oxygen concentrator that I carry on the tractors with me when in the field. It weighs about 14 lbs because when I got it prescribed to me I needed oxygen 24/7 and the little ones cannot do the job. I plug it into the cig. lighter on the tractor for 12 volt or I can use it on batteries but they only last about 2 hours of continous use. I have a large one that operates on 110 Volts for here in the house when I need it and for at night. I have COPD that has brought on pulmonary hypertension--left side of my heart cannot get blood to the lungs properly causing the right side to work extra hard and enlarge. VA is where I got mine, but they will only prescribe them if your pulse-ox falls below 88 with a 6 minute walk. VA has been very good to me over the years. I go to ther Chillicothe< Ohio VA Medical Center.

I have an Inogen- often seen on TV. Has 110 volt and 12 volt setup. It charges an empty battery and provides oxygen at the same time when plugged into either power source.

VA did not provide mine- I bought it on my own. They are spendy, $3000 with two batteries. However, I figured that used might be available, since older people have them. Then they die. I advertised in a Senior"s magazine, got 3 replies...one for $1500. one at 1000, one at 600.

Originally, VA provided me with tanks for use in the house, and small tanks for use in the truck, tractor, and skidloader. They also provide a concentrator for night time use, hooked to the CPAP machine.

Size does matter.

Like others have said, if you are paying out of pocket, check CL. Also, replacement batteries are going to be expensive.

"However, I figured that used might be available, since older people have them. Then they die".

Although it seems callous on first blush, it is the cold hard truth and we will all face that reality someday. Survivors will sometimes even give away their loved one's equipment to someone who really needs it.
