Hope you all are warm today!
Need to replace an alternator on a 3010 John Deere gas, not sure if it is original alternator. The one that is on it has four wires going to
it. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 3010 gas? Any thoughts on what alternator or capacity alternator I would need? What is best
place to purchase an alternator?

Thanks for help.

I'd say it is not original as our 4020 gas has a generator. Might be a good idea to take the one you have to a rebuilder and have it repaired and stick it back on the way it was if it worked before. Mark all you wires before removal.

4 wires tells me it is an external regulator alternator. Follow the 4 leads to find it. Most auto stores have testing systems to check them. (it must have a motor to drive the pulley) Take the regulator with to check it as well. A 10SI Delco can be used but requires different wiring, and no regulator. Let us know what you decide. The 10SI is cheap and reliable as a stone. Jim

I agree with Jim, the Delco 10SI would be reliable, simple, and cheap. 12SI is a later version, same case size. I get one for a 1983 Chevy Suburban.

If your 3010 has the charge indicator light be sure and get a 3 wire, not a 1 wire alternator. Connect the lamp connection at the generator/alternator end to the #1 edge pin on the Delco alternator and it will excite when you start the tractor so you don't need to rev the engine to get it to charge. #2 pin can loop down to the output
