Wind chill calculation

The formulas used to calculate the wind chill index are:

Old Wind Chill Index (Pre-November 2001) =
91.4 - (0.474677 - 0.020425 * V + 0.303107 * sqrt(V)) * (91.4 - T)

New Wind Chill Index =
35.74 + 0.6215T - 35.75(V0.16) + 0.4275T(V0.16)

where:
V = wind speed (mph)
T = temperature (F)

(V0.16) is V to the power 0.16

Definition of windchill. : a still-air temperature that would have the same cooling effect on exposed human skin as a given combination of temperature and wind speed. ? called also chill factor, windchill factor, windchill index.

It looks like some even colder temperatures are coming.

Firstly at the age of 68 and on blood thinners. I was out Sunday night in 16? weather with about a 20mph wind . After 10 minutes I couldn't take any more. Couldn't feel any of my fingers at all. Did get some nice lunar eclipse shots but just could not take any more. If 5here had been no wind I could have taken a bunch of shots but Buuuurrrrrr.....

My calculation is a little different.

T---32---(F) Freezing
W---5---(mph) Freezing Cold

T---32---(F) Freezing
W---10---(mph) Nose runs Boogers freeze

T---32---(F) Freezing
W---20---(mph) Cant feel face any longer

T---32---(F) Freezing
W---30---(mph) No Data will not go outside ,nothings going to crank anyways :)

I got a good chuckle out of yours. You got that frozen boogers right. How about when my mustache freezes up. The worst like 1983 or so, I ever had was plowing the driveway with the little dozer....in about 18 degree temps....and with a snappy 25 to 30 mph wind. Open to the wind, thermals on, several layers, fleece lined Carhart with hood. My eyelids were sticking to my eyeballs. If you blinked you could feel them pop or snap loose. I am never going to do that again. Ahhhhhh the memories.

There was six to maybe nine inches of fluffy snow a couple of days ago that I plowed out in a hurry to keep from freezing to death and didn't push it back far enough, yesterday after noon it snowed and blowed around 30 miles an hour and the temp dropped to about 15 below this morning. I didn't want to do it but my drive way was drifted over a foot deep in places and hard as a rock, spent an hour and a half at +2 degrees this afternoon blowing it out. Now it's supposed to snow Sunday night six to 10 inches and get even colder, -22 one day and the rest of the highs aren't suppose to be above 0. And in a month I'll be two years older than you and on the blood thinner too. can't handle it.

Ah, the misery I went through back in the day. First an H Farmall with trip bucket loader. Then 560 with heat hauser and same loader converted to hyd. bucket. Then 706 with shell of cab (no heater or fan) Finally my present Case CX-100 Factory cab with heat and air. Fully hyd. loader. Kept in a heated shop. When it's cold and windy I am moving snow in my shirt sleeves. Stereo tuned to my favorite station. If I had to go back to original--well I wouldn't. I would sell this place and move in apartment.

When it's cold, put winter colothes on. If wind blowing, put more on. When it's to cold to put more clothes on, head for the wood stove. Don't need a weather man telling me about the wind chill to figure that out. Get some livestock to take care of every day, and you will know what I am talking about.

I keep telling people about how to tolerate the cold better. No kidding...... when you are getting dressed in the morning spray your feet with Arridd extra dry antiperspirant. Hose them down really good. It really makes a difference. Just give it a try.

Jeffcat I hadn?t thought of that seems like a good idea I wear wool socks or any good moisture wicking sock and that sure helps a lot as far as dry feet

That is what the Arrid prevents. When my feet are nice and dry they can handle the cold. If they are cold and get clammy then they send a signal up to my brain and say to heck with this garbage!!!!! I get that terrible knot in my stomach and get those bad shivers. NOT and I do mean NOT fun. Just try hoseing your feet with that stuff. Put on enough so you can skate across the rug. Get back to me after you try it. Bet you will be really happy!

You need to recalculate at zero, 10, and 20 degrees.
We are on a heat pump, at 20 degrees with no wind it barely keeps up.
Anything colder or with wind we need to supplement with space heaters. DOUG

I walked out to the hot tub and back in after thirty minutes in the tub when it was7 degrees the other morn. That was in my birthday suit too.
