I had a JDX4 Special. That was one of the black ones. The remains of it are still out in the lean to on the corn crib.

I have always wanted to get one to go with my John Deere 4 wheeler I missed out on a John Deere snow blower then I?d like to find a John Deere tiller

I?ve got a jd 300, I think everything on it is original, I ran it 2 years or so, then we didn?t get winter for a couple years and then I lost interest. The gas line plastic shattered, I?m sure the track is stiff. But man it really didn?t get used much.

My neighbor got a 400, we rode around a while those 2 years. He was always mad that I could beat him since he had the bigger engine, he even worked on his engine some and it didn?t help.

He wasn?t much for reading, I never did tell him the 400 was geared different for towing a sled so it never would wind up enough to catch me......

SV Cummins, My first snowmobile was a JD 400. Good old sled my and my neighbor had a JDX carcass with a good track I used for my sled. My buddy Randy had a brand new Liquifire, man that was fast in the day. My friend Kevin bought the new Spitfire I wanted, Oh well I just didn't have enough money! That was around 1980 and things aren't much different today! lol

back in the mid to llate 70s I worked with a guy at the dealership here who raced JD snomobiles(when we used to get enough snow to do it) I think he had a liquifier at the end. seemed like a pretty good machine. I think JD may have sponsored him with it.

A friend of mine had a 400 and we made a lot of miles trail riding in the 70s and 80s. Me on my Kawasaki Sno Jet. Later he got a Sportfire. My brother still has a 340 Cyclone. Much like my Kawasaki, sitting in the shed needing a little TLC. But we have not had what I consider good snow conditions for a long time. This is some video of me crusing with the old Astro 340 back in 1990.

The late model JD snowmobiles we're made by Arctic cat. I'm not sure about the early ones. One of my brothers had a jd, but I don't remember what model it was.

I still have a pristine 79 Yamaha special twin 300. Drug it out a few years ago, drained the tank, cleaned the carb, washed/waxed it and was going to sell it, drove it around the yard a few times and parked it back in the shop.

I owned 5 different JD snowmobiles, including a liquifire made in 84. I?m not disputing you but this is the first time I ever heard Artic Cat made John Deere?s snowmobiles. My 84 had a Kawasaki engine!

Arctic cat used Kawasaki engines before going to Suzuki, then their own. I'm not sure of the years tho, and it may have just been some part of the sled that they used. I was pretty young then, so I may be remembering wrong.

As far as I know there was no connection between Arctic Cat and John Deere snowmobiles other than that they both used Kawasaki built engine for a few years. John Deere built their own machines.

I bought a skirole (sp?) that was made by the Coleman company. My brother raced it for one year and it was very competitive. He took it to West Yellowstone, Mt and placed in one of the events. It was a 440 RTX. The next year it was less than average but I rode it until the metal was so fatigued I finally recycled it. I still have the sachs engine, but what for I do not know. Bud

440 used to be as big as they got. I started out with a single cylinder 295 Sno Jet. Moved up to a much better 340 twin. Picture from February of 77. Me and little brother out on the 2 "jets".

I don't know anything about the snowmobiles any more, be 70 years old in a month and plowing the drive way is way more winter sport than I want. Would like to know if my Yamaha was worth anything though, should be in nice shape, has a nice track with new slides. Kids used to ride it around the yard and the neighbors pasture but not for over fifteen years.

This is mine. It's a heavy duty machine. My mom's little JD tiller threw a rod when me and my sister were younger. My dad refused to get a different one. He figured us kids were old enough to use the push cultivator. The little JD is still sitting in the junk pile.
