Check my thinking alternator wiring

So I have a guy who will be bringing me a made I Japan tractor in a few days. All the wiring is missing on it. Alternator has 4 wires. Charge wire ground wire and then 2 others. If I am thinking right if I apply 12 volts to one wire at a time and then use the magnet test I can by doing it that way figure out which is the excite wire and the n sense wire right??
Thanks

Maybe. What Japanese manufacturer made it? Some may have a indicator light output that is not a sense or Excite terminal. The link goes tpo one type. Once you know the maker and plug shape, finding it is not tough Jim

Not sure of the exact name of the brand of tractor but it starts with an S. No marking that I could see on the alternator. What is left of the wiring is not much due to some one trying to steal the wiring and other parts. Wires cut off and no switch of other such thing. It does how ever have a idiot light on dash for the temp oil and charging but figure it is likely to be like the 10SI where when running the light goes out in the excite circuit

That's quite a puzzle. Would it be easier/ cheaper to put a Delco alternator on and start from scratch?

It is a 2 cylinder diesel but the funny thing I on the hood it says International 284 or some such thing but the tag says something else.

Starts with an S ..... how about SATOH, maybe a Satoh 650 G ..... I have a wiring diagram here for one of those. Reply here and we can move on from there.

It will be a few days before I know for sure what it is. The guy will be bringing it to me so I can wire it up and also getting it running. Has a bunch of parts missing also like the 3 point arms and the seat. It is a 4 wheel drive tractor and for sure a 2 cylinder diesel

OK, the one we have is a Satoh 650G, 4 cylinder gas (Mazda Australian truck engine from the early 70s). Is this tractor that is coming to you more like a small yard tractor? Satoh made a 2 cylinder model 370 with a Mitsubishi diesel ..... here is the link below. I will see if perhaps they used the same alternator and do some searching. Meanwhile, here is the link .... the full manual for the 650 is available on line.

I see from the Tractor Data specs that the Satoh 370 also had a four-wheel-drive. Here is a link to the wiring diagram below from a post on another tractor site. It has a four-terminal alternator and a six-terminal regulator. Same number of terminals as on the 650, they might have the same electrical system, and why not ..... saves a lot of money to keep using the same parts.

Once you get the tractor, you could pull the alternator off, get a good look at it, find the mfg name.

If you can get online good enough to look at some pictures, you can find a wiring diagram for it.

Another option would be to take it to the auto supply, let them test it. While they are testing it look at how it is wired up. Kill 2 birds, find out if it is a good alternator, and how it is wired.
