Cardan shaft on David Brown 990 (12 speed)

While replacing the clutch on my David Brown 990 (12 speed) the engine side got let down too fast, when I was stabbing the two halves, and slightly bent the PTO cardan shaft that had telescoped out, I was able to knock it in with a wood block and when I turned the shafts the PTO worked at the rear in low high and stationary in neutral. After completing the clutch replacement and during the test drive I could hear an unfamiliar sound (kind of like a chain dragging on the pavement). I feel I should replace the cardan shaft and was wondering if this has to be done by splitting the tractor again or can it be removed from the rear. I have the service manuals but have not found any instruction on this. Can any one help with this information

It can be done by pulling off the PTO box. Not a huge job compared to splitting it.possible you broke something in the PTO box anyway as the parts should slide together easily.

If you are near western PA I probably have a shaft.

Okay wow! I was hoping to hear that. The repair manuals that I have are Case publications so I probably cant get any thing more detailed , is that correct? They barely mentioned the cardan shaft so I am curious why it has to telescope in and out since once the tractor is back together it would seem that a solid shaft would work. I live in New Mexico but would be willing to pay any shipping charges to get the shaft here if someone has one in good shape.

shipping would certainly be cheaper from Oregon.

In some versions of the manual they tell you to remove the PTO box and pull the cardan shaft out the rear before splitting for a clutch. I never do because it makes for a couple hours more work.
