Slag pipe on snow blade.

I used a 3.5 inch OD pipe because it all I had. I Welded 3 brackets so it could bolt it to snow blade. If you have gravel drive and use this slag pipe to level drive before snows, you won't remove too much gravel if you listen for the pipe when it hits gravel. It would work better if the snow blade were lighter or if you use a larger pipe.

I always take snow to edge of road in case there is gravel in snow.

This works far better just using a blade without slag pipe.

I can only angle blade one position or the end will dig in to the gravel. Has anyone tired using a slag pipe?

Interesting term, Slag Pipe. Hoosiers and others with access to Steel mill slag as drive way material call things related to it by that term. Gravel, roadbase, ABC pit run. I like your anti gouge buffer. Jim

I worked by way through college at Bethlehem steel Burns harbor, In. I know all about slag.

Think of snow as slag and the gravel is the steel you want to leave behind.

I had the one I built on here2 years ago-I cut a chunk out of the one I built with the plasma and slipped it over the cutting edge-used it today.---Tee

I don't have pics of mine, but I made a slit in a piece of 1 1/2" or 2" steel pipe. Made the slit so it fit snug and had to be hammered onto the blade edge. Then I welded tabs to the back side of pipe and attached to plow using existing bolts. Once the yard freezes, I can plow anywhere without any worries. Usually there's a first-snow-of-the-season where the yard isn't frozen, but we lucked out this year.

I used sch 40 2" pipe on my back blade, cut slot down middle of pipe over scraper blade, with potter key & pin on each end to take off if need to.

I think it would be fare more dependable on the front of the cutting edge. I fear the tabs will bend the way you mounted it, unless you push snow with the back of the blade rather than the front.

I remember why I used the back side. The bolts on the front side have square countersunk heads.

Been using the pipe shortly after I bought the Jubilee and it hasn't broken.

SO, If it isn't broken why worry about fixing it?

Why do you call it slag pipe?

Because years ago a YT member called his a slag pipe. Sounds appropriate don't you think? Snow is like slag you want to remove and leave gravel drive behind.

What would you call it?

(quoted from post at 18:53:05 01/19/19) No that is a red neck drill press! The safety police will be all over that.
arn sight safer than sitting on the handles & having it wrap you up or throw you off!
