Sometimes I wonder

Bought a tractor yesterday, pics later, and it has a loader that has seen some hard use. But this particular repair caught my eye for some reason. Lol. Sometimes I can't figure out how they get to this point.

Looks like they tried to get the right geometry and just kept adding til they got what they wanted.

Well you can show them up and make a super nice repair and paint it. Good winter project. My dad tried doing that with an after market bucket years ago. I can't remember how many times he had to fudge stuff around till it worked pretty well. Pasable.

You may as well make a worth while bucket for it while you are at it ! I know you can do It right.

I m with bruce I want to see the tractor. We know you ll redo that right the first time lol. RB

Probably replaced the original cylinder with one that was too long. Either got the geometry wrong the first time, or maybe it was replaced with the wrong one more than once. at least the welds held.

I have made repairs that look like that. Sometimes I never had a torch to cut things off so I just welded on what I had.

Well some people are not fabricators!!! On geometry I learned a few lessons the hard way over the years. SO IS THAT THERE AN ALLIS CHALMERS (HE HE)

Don't really see a problem. Looks to me like the first two were factory like most equipment has. Needed a cylinder and what he could lay his hands on was a little long. Solution is to add another brace to mount it to. Sure it would look better had he cut the old off but by leaving it you can go back with the original cylinder should you run across one.

You no we all can?t be fabricators I can envision some poor fella broke down needs to complete some project. Got a torch a stick welder some scrap iron no dry place to work and just had no choice than to just do the best he could. On top of that he so broke he can?t pay attention. Got 4 or 5 kids to feed and another on the way and another mile of fence to run before dark. May not be pretty but in a pinch it just had to do. Good rancher or farmer we just learn how to work with what we got.

When in doubt consult the junk pile. Since I'm a functionality person, looks take a back seat....course looks are fine but have their priority. Besides, when I was fixing up "Rent-a-wrecks" from the junk yards so that the kids would have something to drive.....and not tear up the "family bus"....or run it out of gas and leave it, or be gone with it when mom or pop needed it........., it's fun to make something do what needs to be done.
