Giving old junk a new life

I recently dug out an old truck frame that was used as a hay trailer 40 years ago or so. I havent did anything to it yet, just using it as is for the winter. Also I had an old stock rack for a pick up truck that was laying in the brush that was damaged, so I cut it up a bit and made a hay feeder that works great.

I like it. If you were to add a little duct tape one might think
it was used on the Red Green show.

Nice job, looks like it's doing the work you'd planned for it. Great to find a use for something you already have.

I'm curious to what make/model truck the frame is from. I am going to keep my eye out on craigslist for some old wore out tires and wheels cheap or free. I have a rectangular steel frame in the bushes that will make a decent deck for it once the weather gets better.

It looks like an old Ford frame with the five big bolts about 5/8 or 3/4 tires are hard to find for it. Dad just used one like that and drilled new holes to fit a different wheel. I think he used 16 inch wheels without the brakes on. Drum would not fit inside the 16 inch wheels. If you want to pay the shipping there are some olsd wheels for that here might be 4 good wheels. I'm not sure if he changed them all or just the flat ones.

OregonAaron, Don't think it is a Ford. How many lugs hold the wheel on?
6 lugs could be GM . 5 lugs could be Chrysler product.

I believe they are 6 lug. Thanks for the offer Caterpillar guy, I'd bet shipping would be a killer! I will measure the spacing of the lugs in a couple days. The rear differential is kind of strange, instead of a u-joint or flange in the pinion area- there is a tube extending out approx 4 ft that the drive line is inside of. Maybe it was a normal design for the era? I dont know.

Actually I have had this in operation for a couple months, I refined it a few times and all is well. I did some reading about bar spacing and angle that worked best with the least amount of wasted hay. Considering that I used to feed on the ground, this has worked out amazing!
