John Deere front mount cultivator

a friend of mine has a John Deere 6 row wide cultivator front mount off a John Deere 70 tractor he wants to sell what would be a fair price to offer him he say's it's all there thanks for any advise Howard

If it is something you need, complete with shields, maybe some extras like rolling shields or disc hillers, and the shovels are in good condition, pretty much field ready as-is, $500 would be a very fair price. There were not a lot of 6 row front mount cultivators built, so they may be hard to find today. You may spend that close to that much or more to fix up an incomplete cultivator or one that needs repairs. $500 is also more than the seller will get anywhere else. So IMHO, both parties should be very happy at $500.

I don't know what number you're indicating about "not a lot of 6 row frt cultivators built" BUT back in the 60's-80's there were a lot of frt mount cultivators in Texas.

In the Midwest there were a lot of front mount cultivators sold into the early 1970's, but few were six 38 inch rows. Here, rear mount cultivators became popular at about the same time that many farms were changing from four row 36-40 inch rows to six or eight row 30 inch rows. We just didn't see many 18 foot wide front cultivators that could handle six wide rows or eight narrow rows, compared to the number of 13 to 15 foot wide front mount cultivators for four wide rows or six narrow rows.

I think one reason frt mount cultivators were popular in Texas is because of land being terraced which created a lot of point rows requiring 1 side or other of cultivator needing to be raised independently when turning on the end of rows

Here in Ohio I have never seen a 6 row front mount cultivator, wide or narrow. Lots of 4 row tho and that is what I had.

Not sure what a front mount deere is worth. There used to be a fair amount of front mount 6and 8 row front fold cultivators in the thumb of MI on 06 and 56 series tractors. The White bean guys would have them. They folded forwards to make them narrow enough to get down the road. Would like to know what they would be worth and how they were mounted.
