Cracked Super M Manifold

Just curious as to how my Super M exhaust/ Intake manifold has a vertical crack where the pipe plug screws into manifold? Is this a common problem? Are there other reasons that can cause this or is it only were someone has over tightened the pipe plug?

It is a relatively thin area of the casting with a thicker section at the plug. threads are stress points due to sharp edges. the rust between the threads and casting swells, heat and cool swells and shrinks. Were it mine I would grind it to a V run the engine till up to temp, then weld it with Nickle rod. Jim

a shop up here in northwest Iowa takes them old manifolds - puts the in some sort of machine and it hogs out the old threaded area then He
cuts a female pipe conector in half and welds it in the hole -- wala -- new threads -- I think He charged around half of what a new
manifold cost -- Matlock Iowa --- Maggert machine -- them guys can weld paper! They do a lot of casting also ! Roy
