Travel Advice for Thursday

We are headed home to Iowa from Houston tomorrow.

There are two ways we can go, one is over to Dallas, up 35 to DesMoines and back to Cedar Rapids on 80. The other way is up through Arkansas to Columbia MO, then up 44 through Lake of Ozarks and home from there.

It looks like some nasty weather in the southern half.

Advice would be appreciated.

Depending on how fast the system moves, thru Dallas and into Oklahoma does not look good. May encounter freezing rain and snow, per Intellicast.com. Go to current tab, then surface, and then surface analysis maps.

If it should move faster, then the east route may not be so good. Anything to do in Houston for a day to two?

Happy trails and good luck!
Roger

David I think you have your directions all mixed up. Columbia MO is around 80 miles north of the Lake of the Ozarks so to go to Columbia then down to I44 and through the Lake of the Ozarks you would be going south 80 or so plus miles then back north again wasting a lot of time and $$ doing so.

I will say this the lake of the Ozarks area has no bad weather in the next 7 days if you can believe the weather guessers.

Now if you had said up through Arkansas then up I44 through the lake of the Ozarks and up to Columbia I would then understand

I would go to Texarkana then on to St. Louis and straight up, a little shorter and no tolls.

I figured you either had the cities mixed up or the directions LOL. As for the drive yes going through Arkansas and Mo by way if I44 is a bit more scenic then going up I35 Plus probably more interesting places to stop along the way

I will second going to Texarkana then towards Little Rock/St. Louis. I would not go clear to St. Louis but At Little Rock cut north on a variety of pretty good St. Highways. Then just work your way up to Jefferson City. Then cut over towards Hannibal until you hit the Ave. of the Saints to home. Not the fastest but a lot more interesting of a drive. Plus close to the shortest distance.

I have done this, Houston to Buffalo on I45, Take 79 to Palestine, take 19 to Athens Sulphur Springs and Paris up to Hugo OK. Take Indian Nation turnpike to McAlester, Take 69 to Vinita, Now you can get on Will Rogers turnpike or jockey around on 2 lanes and get to 71 heading North to KC. AT Harrisonville I take 291 up thu Independence to Liberty joining I35. There is a short cut thru Liberty that would save you a minute but is hard to explain. Don't know about the weather. Good luck.

He is already gone now but 19 form Canton Tx up to Sulphur Springs is under construction and some 45 mph areas.
