Angry start to 2019

The wife and I made it to 12 and went to bed around 1. Layed
there for 10 minutes or so and it was like someone threw a
switch. It went from fairly calm to extreme wind. Sounded
like what people say a tornado sounds like. Kinda like a
freight train. Strong enough it actually was rattling the
windows and siding. They said to expect up to 60mph winds, and
we have had that here before but this seemed stronger. Wife
was getting nervous, and to be honest I was getting worried
about finding some damage to the house this morning. We got
lucky only lost some large limbs off a few trees. I hope this
isn't some type of sign of things to come in the new year ! Oh
yeah location is Western New York.

I had the same kind of weather here in nwpa. I'm right near the corner of pa where it makes the "chimney" with new York. It was 57 degrees last night about 10 and then it's 34 this morning. I bet the lake looked pretty scary last night. I always wonder about those guys operating the big lake freighters, hope they had sense enough to drop anchor someplace safe.

I heard it too,but it was the road grader with the blade down in the blacktop. It was raining when I went to bed,but it must have started freezing on so they needed to scrape and salt.

I have no hope of that. The person running the ship, like the person running the aircraft, is the final authority on go/no go decisions. But, they all have bosses, sitting comfortably in their office, or resort, or whatever. As long as the company can find insurance coverage, the bean counter running things is apt to say, one more load. And the captain wants to keep his job. And so on..........

That hit here this morning. I'm off today and lately just cannot sleep through the night, so I go to my job exhausted like heck. First time in years I did not stay up, turned in real early, up every 2 hours or less, so when the morning came, finally felt like getting a real period of sleep, then that darned wind came in, knocked over the trash container and the recyclable container, they never picked up this week, so I get to clean the mess, not too much at least.

A year ago, November before last, we had some winds coming out of the south that were literally pushing in the Anderson window sash on the south side, you could see them move inward. I thought for sure there would be trouble, the sound was incredible and this was upwards of 60-70MPH winds, some sustained. I like the benefits in the woods though, it takes down all the weak trees and limbs, had a big one come down that I feared having to fell, so, that was a good thing at least.

Happy New Year! Here in SE Wisconsin we had about 1/2 inch of rain that turned to sleet and finally snow about 4 pm. Got about an inch of snow on top of the slush/ice. Plow came through about 7:30 and rolled up some nice sized snowballs along the curb. Down to 17* overnight so everything is frozen pretty good. Hoping for some sun later to loosen things up for shoveling. Have yet to use the snowblower. Thankful for no high winds, or flooding. Have a great year!

We're a little farther south from you in NY. Figured to work some today as it is warmer. Putting plywood and ice and watershield on the roof today.

I was up late on the computer. Heard some wind and the lights flickered a few times but that was it. Lots of debris and branches along the roads this morning
