I'm in SE IN near Cincinnati but plan to go west in 2019 to visit my son in Billings and my brother in Dallas.

I also plan to visit the UP steam shops in Cheyenne.

It is so funny when you read how far the two crews "passed "each other
and kept right on going. Was a big land grab. The tracks they were
laying were barely held together and were falling apart as they were
laying them. Took both railroads several years to bring the tracks up
to a reasonable condition. They just threw chopped trees down for
ties. No tie plates and no ballast. All timber bridges too. You see
pictures of some trestles that were thrown up in less than a week.
Crazy!
