If I were to change brands

I have always been a Ford guy, mainly because in the town where I grew up there was one guy with JDs, one with Farmalls, one with a Massey Ferguson, no Acs or Olivers. Everyone else had good tractors. My cousin who died in a farming accident a year and a half ago, had an 8830, two TW-30s, a 7710, and a few smaller ones.

I change brands about every time I get on another tractor on my farm, did run two Olivers and an AC yesterday. My two major concerns when I buy a tractor are price and condition.

I came near to buying a new Ford before I bought my new 4040 Deere. We had a Ford dealer about half way between me and the Deere dealership. They closed not long after I bought the Deere,so I guess I made the right choice.

SV you would be better to jump to the 70 series that replaced these 30 series. The thirty series was a good tractor but they had an engine design issue. The water jacket went to low and close to the cylinder wall. So they would had a cavitation issue that would worm hole the block towards the bottom of the cylinder wall. A lot of 1000-1500 hour tractors had to have new blocks installed around here. The real kick in the pants it did not show up for 4-5 years so the tractors where out of warranty. Ford also does not do service allowances on these type of factory defect either. JD often has servi9ce allowances on things that show up way out of warranty by time. So you might get 30-60% of the repair paid for by JD years after the sale.

The Genesis series motors corrected this issue. Talk to some Ford sales guys from that time period, 1993, and they will tell you they had to walk a fine line on the "new" Genesis series motors because if they touted that the block trouble was "fixed" there would have been a bunch of Late model owners screaming for help on their repair bills.

What JD Seller is telling you is also reflected in auction prices. The folks that know tend to shy away from the 30 series Fords , at least from what I have seen.

I do not like the genesis series of tractors the big guys had them here and they always had something wrong them the Dealer in the next town sold and serviced them and I?m sure the farmers up here will pay for Fred?s retirement his kids retirement and grand kids retirement and a condo in Hawaii for the miles and after hour service calls

Hmmmm. Change brands? I drove 2 fords ,an Oliver, a MM ,and a Cub today. And tinkered with an AC. What would I change to?

You may put a 451 genesis in an older Ford and have something. This has been done before. The funk transmission on the powershift is not as strong as a magnum one, but nicer to operate due to the electronic reverser.

In those days a guy needed a dealer for parts not near as many aftermarket companies even today it?s nice to have a dealer around for parts even with my old equipment a lot of times when I look at parts from shoup or all states by the time I pay the shipping it?s cheaper to buy from the dealer anyway

SV, for me the money is pretty much a wash, but when I go to the dealer they have to order it and then I have to drive back again to pick it up when it comes in. When I buy on line it comes to my door in two days.

Showcrop my dealer brings the parts right to my
door as well I just submit the order online and in
couple days the parts are in my shed . There are
times when I can get a part cheaper online and it?s
worth the hassle to save 50% or more on a part . I
also have a great independent parts guy who beats
the pants of the dealers on parts like plow shares
waterpumps and starters and alternators he also
has a lot of used parts available he?s about an hour
away but it?s like going to Santa?s toy shop

The old ford compact and subcompacts are getting really hard to get parts for why because ford I was told by the dealer kept the rights to the ford tractors . I do know when I worked for fiat back in the day new Holland was forced to change the color of blue they used on their tractors becuse ford blue was owned by ford also when the company reps were coming to the dealer and we knew they were coming we had to hide everything with the ford logo on it
