Got the ol' Oliver 77 to run today. For about 10 seconds,15 seconds and then a full 30 seconds. Push button got so hot it was smoking. How ya like my fuel tank?

What does the knob below and to left of starter switch do

?

K if you trace the linkage of that knob you will see if goes down to the belt pulley and it how one turs the belt pulley on and off. I took a quick walk out to my 77 just to double check what and where it went.
So did you hot wire it yet?? If yes did it run longer. How about the fuel vent we talked about?

Hey Old, we had both battery cables brand new in the shop ,but I had to run to town for the switch to starter cable. I will be out there in the morning working on it. Enjoyed talking to you this evening!

That is great Grandpa. I always liked Olivers. Use to be a dealer in town near here.
I ran my sawmill with an 88 for a little while. Lots of smooth power.

(quoted from post at 18:35:01 12/24/18) I was surprised at how smooth it ran!

Those straight 6 motors are smooth and love to hear them run. I have an 1936 Oliver hart part 70 nothing sounds like them

"Nah! The 960 Ford will always be my favorite. And the 640 is our work horse!!"

That Oliver will get MUCH more attention at the tractor shows. :)
Just kidding. Looks like you've got a nice tractor there.

Grandpa you better keep that tractor under lock and key. I grew up on a 77. Loved that tractor. Hopefully I can get one one of these days. RB

Two suggestions on battery cables. On 6 volt people tend to use to small of cables because they are use to 12 volt. Oliver grounded to the sheet metal grounding to the chassis works better.

Good to see another Oliver running Jim

00 gauge cables for those 6v systems is the only way to go

Other then it not having a 3 point after a little of running it you will park the Ford and use the Oliver. I built a 3 point for my 77 and with that and every thing else my old ford 841S does very little over what I would use the Oliver for. Used the ford to bale hay but NEVER again the 77 hands down even being less HP runs circles around the ford

I have a 1949 88 I just got it running again this fall. It had not been run for a couple years. Luckily it didn?t have any old gas in it to go bad.

Randy,is that 70 still in the back of your barn? I remember you saying something about it a while back. Any idea on where to get some side skirts? Thanks. And Merry Christmas.

I've still got it,ya. I might get it in the shop after I get the wife's Super 55 finished up,unless another odd ball project falls in my lap. I assume you're talking about curtains for the 77? You can buy those new from Korves Oliver,Stiener,Lynchfarmstractorparts dot com and others. Used ones show up quite often. I've got a pair, but they're rough. 66 and 77 use the same louvered panels, just the rear panels are different. 88s are larger. The ones on the 60s and 70s were a whole different animal.
