Cotton Market

The post below about cotton pickers, and the price of such a machine!

Got me curious as to what is the market for cotton?

I read somewhere that there is no textile industry left in the US.

Where does the cotton go?

Industry, medical, exported?

The local gin recently has been shipping to China. Don't know where else but employs said they have been loading containers to be loaded on ships at Galveston.

. I?m sure there isn?t a textile industry to many people that won?t get out of bed for 15$ an hour . Every shirt or pair pants you buy is stamped proudly made in China 🇨🇳 . So just like everything else we ship the raw materials over they make the final product and then they ship it back to us

The textile industry isn't dead but it is but a fraction of the old days. I'm still in it along with a few family members in other branches.

Parkdale Mills is probably the largest yarn mill left in the country. Headquarted in Gastonia NC with plants across the nation. My brother runs their flagship plant. Believe it or not most of the yarn they process is shipped to China. Their output is tremendous.

US cotton is a subsidy of theirs that supplies the medical field. Cotton balls, pads, q tips, etc. All made here in the US. They make the supplies for a lot of brands but there's usually a US cotton label on the package as well. Next time you go to the store for some q tips check out the label.
