1968 Calendar

Seems to me I started posting these vintage calendar shots last winter and then forgot about it. Found the calendar again today and thought this rare 2510 tractor was worth posting. I never saw one here. 2010 and 3010, also 4010 were common but no 2510.

There were several around here,,several 2520's too..I think there are 5 or 6 2520's and about 8 2510's still being used in my area..

I've never seen that picture. Chopping is not something I'd think of with a 2510! The picture I recall showed them on a rail car.

The first new 2510 in this area arrived at our farm in spring 1966, when I was just turning 11. I was so impressed, I couldn't believe the same company made it, that made the trade in, a 50! The big tractor up until then was an AC WD45. I was even more impressed years later when I learned how small the engine in that 2510 was. JD really cranked the HP out of that 180 cubic inches. Such a nice tractor, and being under powered for the size of it was remedied with the 2520.

The following spring, another new 2510 showed up at my uncles, who had traded his B for the 50 a year earlier! For many years they were a team, running NH bale wagons, and bean pullers as a pair.

Years later, when I was looking for that size tractor, I found a low hour 2520 gas. It's now a diesel, and it still pulls a six row planter.

I turbo'd a few of them, using turbo stuff off a 450 dozer, and I put a 276 cid out of 2630's in a couple,,made them real spunky for a little tractor.

I bought a 2510 off of ebay a few years ago for a little over $4,000. We won't discuss how much I put into it to get it nice, but now it is one of my favorites. Last year when the 4020 was down, I used the 2510 on a JD 1600, 12 ft mower/conditioner and it handled it just fine. Fine on the round baler too. Pretty handy little tractor.

If I had left my 2520 alone it might be worth a small fortune, as it had a rare underneath exhaust! But I wanted a working tractor, and put a diesel engine in it with an upright exhaust. I was hoping to find a newer 239 to put in it, but a 219 is what was available easily. With the pump set 10% over fueled, it does fine.

The 2510 was produced for 1966-67-68. The 2520 replaced the 2510 in 1969, the same year the side consoles came out.

I think people shied away from the 2510, thinking it was just a disguised 2010.

Never saw a real one. Of course this was Oliver country I grew up in and some IH. We were the odd ball in the neighborhood with Case and JD.

Right now I have three 2510's here. Two gas and one diesel as well as a 1972 2520. The 2510 looks like a miniature 4020. I have had my diesel since I started farming and when I get down to just one tractor it will more than likely be it. Tom

A friend of mine has a gas power shift narrow front setting in back of his shed. It has not ran for probably 25 years, he grandpa bought it new.( no he wont sell it, I have tried!)

I put a 276 in a 2520 and a turbo. Guy still has it and it isn't for sale. A really nice tractor. Wish I had one years ago.

Dad went to the local Deere dealer to buy a new 2510. The salesman was busy so Dad went out and talked to the mechanic. He told Dad that the 2510 was a half breed and not to buy one. He came home with a brand new 820 three cylinder instead. In 1972 he bought a new 2520 diesel. Between me and dad we owned 25 or more 2510-2520's over the years including several powershifts. Tom

I have 3 JD 2510 tractors , one is a gas synchorange trans and teo have diesel engines with the rarer powershift transmissions and just love them.

They are a very nice little tractor,, a couple of my friends bought one when they came home from their senior trip in Vietnam ,,Diesel Sychro's, they still have them,,another friend had a Gas Power shift,,it was sad on power,,he got rid of it , then found out there were only a few made...

I remember when a friend bought one of those brand new his senior year in high school. You could do that when you milked cows back then.
