Folks, swing evolved into jitterbug, which evolved into disco.

When small, I remember my Mother, a US Army Nurse in the South Pacific, talking about dancing in the Officer's Clubs in Australia, New Guinea, and The Philippines.

From the little that I was able to gather, it seems that she could cut a rug.

Enjoy.

A Better Era

Let's not forget that there was a west coast swing and an east
coast swing. It's been a while since I've done either but I believe
I saw them both demonstrated in the linked video. The best
exercise a person can get in public and some great music to boot!
Thanks for the memories Dean! :)

I have posted this before. One of the few "Happy" times I can remember between my Mother and Father was them dancing together in the early 1950s. They were great at the Swing and Jitterbug styles. They went to dance competitions and usually where in the top group at them.

My Mother started teaching the Grand daughters the Swing and Jitterbug dancing years ago. My oldest grand daughter can dance both those styles just like my Mother. While she was stationed in Germany she was able to go to a lot of dances where some of the younger people are dancing these older style of dances. She has a video of her and a German lad dancing the Jitterbug with which they won that night's dance completion. They where sure dancing their hearts out. I never could move like they where.

I will tell you this you have to be in good shape to really go all out dancing either of those styles also. Not many of the people today could do them. The older ones just because of our age and the younger ones because they are lot of them out of shape.

Here is a video with similar music but different scenery.

Many of the steps in these videos are fairly basic. Anyone can learn them. With experience you can make a simple box step look spectacular. Its not that you can?t do it. You just never have been trained
