John Deere 750 popping noise in reverse

My JD 750 compact tractor started making a loud popping noise while in reverse. I fear that I have broken gear teeth. I would like other thoughts and ideas as well as information on how much of an undertaking it is if I do need to replace a gear.

Just a thought but check for loose wheel bolts , they can make a similar noise.
