I thought it was illegal? Except maybe for special purposes? From my perspective that might make it priceless! :)

Useful stuff but a little scary healthwise.

Chlordane is illegal to be sold or used in the USA. It is legal however to be manufactured here but sold to foreign countries.

Banned for use on farms in 1978
Banned for use to kill termites in wood structures in 1987
From 1987 to 1997 it was manufactured in the usa for sale overseas.
Has not be produced since 1997.

Chlordane; a cousin to DDT is some bad stuff or good stuff depending on your perspective.

It is potent stuff. I sprayed it on the floor inside the shop around the perimeter along the walls to kill crickets. two years later that one spray job was still killing crickets.

Can't sell it, can't take it to the landfill, so the only way to get rid of it is to use according to directions.

Not true. Haz waste collection sites in many states will take it.

The half life of that stuff can be up to 30 years. There are good reasons it was banned and I wouldn't want to be anywhere near where it was used. Plus, using it would just encourage over-application to "use it up" so just get rid of that crap at a haz waste agency and be done with it.

I still have 5 gallons of chlodane. My local department of ag inspector told me that it was legal to use my remaining stock according to label directions. Not sure about food crops. Mine is labelled for termites. Not sure about crickets. I do not think chlordane was ever banned. I think the label was pulled and all if the old stock could be used. I could be wrong. Everyone thinks MSMA was banned. Not true. You can use it according to the label till gone.

Dean,
When I bought a property in 1979 the man who worked at the Velicole plant in Marshall, Ill he gave me a gallon of it.

As you can see, no warning label on the can. Directions are a little sketchy.

He told me in 1979 he would mix it with 50 gallons diesel fuel and pour it around foundations. Pure chlordane by itself, isn't water soluble. It's a petroleum product, oil base. He told me chlordane would crystalize and be in the ground forever. This man was the plant manager there with an engineering degree from a private local college, now called Rose Hulman. Considered to be at the top of private engineering colleges.
If you dig around an old foundation treated with this stuff, you could smell the distinct smell of Chlordane.

What I have isn't the stuff you would get in any store.

I'll leave my email open. I have no use for it. I started on my spring cleaning a few days ago, that's spring of 1998. Everything I haven't used in 20 years is going. Well the Chlordane was hiding until yesterday. Time to go.
