Making an old door key?

A couple pictures. One is the remnants of an old key that was jamming the lock. Second is a picture of the inside of the old door mechanism. Wondering how hard it would be to make a key for this? If you look at the picture you can see that the key rides up along either of the two downward projecting points on the bolt. I am speculating that these serve as wards and keep you from opening the door with just a rectangle on a stick. When the key rides to the top it pushes up the piece of metal in the slot which deflects the flat spring above and allows the bolt to slide under the stop when the key, continuing the circle, pushes the bolt out. Hoping that makes sense but look at the pictures and you can see what I mean. Anyone ever make a key for one of these? Doesn't look like I need a locksmith for something so simple. May even be able to just find one that works at the salvage yard?

See a locksmith. We have a guy here that wouldn't even blink - just hand you or make one. Old school for sure - he's been at it since the 40's.

Agree with Bob. Shame you don't live near SJ. I would send you over to Byer's lock shop in Mt Holly. They have a key rack full of all different types of those keys. Couple of bucks. Will need to be a lock shop at least 50 years old.

Yep, you could make one. You could also pick one up at any old time hardware store. Got any older neighbors or friends. Chances are they will have several old skeleton key's in their old junk drawer. I do.

Those parts to that lock are very similar to the eastlake rim locks I rebuilt for our new house this summer. I only have one key, but with some wiggling it will unlock all 6 locks I have. If you have an old key you can do a little filing and make it work. Nathan

That is just a standard basic latch and deadbolt combo. About anyskeleton key could be made to work in it. As of 10 years ago (the last time I looked) you could by those keys in Ace Hardware and Menards, although I believe at Menards you could only by them with the latch.

I get up there all the time! I will make a point of stopping in there and showing them the lock and seeing what they think. Thanks!
