As many of you predicted, my intake manifold gasket was leaking and coolant got into all four plugs on the right side. I got the manifold off this morning and of coutse acorns and trash under it.
Question 1: What is the bolt and wire for? Ground to the block?

Question 2: There looks to be a little erosion around the coolant port on the head. Should I add some silicone sealer there?

Question 3: The lower manifold has some engine oil pooling in the bottom, not much but I'm wondering how it could get there. It doesn't smell of gas. Only thing I could think of is that it came from the PCV. None in the upper manifold, only the plastic lower half.
Question 4: The plastic cover on the lower is in several pieces. Is it really necessary or can I leave it off?

I can not tell you what the wire/bolt is for. I can tell you to skip the silicone sealer and use Loctite 518 Anaerobic Sealer. I rarely use silicone on anything anymore. The anaerobic sealers are tens times better.

I have seen that metal coolant pipe leak it rust where it goes into the front of the block... Best I remember I removed the water pump and had to make a driver to get it out... Add a good dose of crushed red pepper in the valley to keep the mice out...

Porous casting may be the oil leak google it... Its not a show stopper...

How long have you owned this truck? Did it get hot while you've owned it?

I had a bad experience with that. Turned out the previous owner had overheated the engine and blew the head gaskets and intake manifold gasket. He poured in a lot of stop leak and sold it. The stope leak worked for a about 20K miles. Then the intake manifold gasket blew through the stop leak - repaired it then a few thousand miles later the head gaskets blew again. The repair costs were enough to make me part out a pretty good truck.
