power steering problem with Case 310B

I have a Case 310B w/backhoe and loader that I am restoring.Power steering is giving me fits, so I bought a new pump and put new o-rings in the steering ram.Sitting on the ground, it went all the way to the left, but refused to go back to the right.I removed the grease fitting to be sure it wasn't binding, but no change.I used the loader bucket to raise the front end up, and the wheels will turn both ways, but not without effort.Have replaced the o-rings between the barrel and cylinder twice to no avail. There was an extra o-ring that is a little larger than the other two, but I haven't figured out where it goes.Would it go on the bolt that has the small spacer??The hoses are installed as per instructions I have found in my service manual:top hose on pump to outside port on ram. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just guessing here, but if you had the steering cylinder apart. Did it have an o-ring on the shaft to keep it from leaking through by the shaft to piston as well as the barrel to piston seals? That could let oil flow by the piston at the shaft under load that would not necessarily happen with no weight on the wheels. Reason for asking is, if I read your post right you sounded like you had an extra o-ring.
NOT trying to criticize here just asking. Don't shoot the help. LOL

If you're talking about the bolt that runs through the piston-there was no o ring on it when I took it apart.Would the o ring go on the threaded end behind the washer or the end by the small spacer washer?I had it apart again today and put an o ring around the pressure relief ball hole and stopped the leaking, but wheels still won't turn sitting on the ground. No, I don't think you're criticizing at all, I appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks to everyone!

The power steering cylinder isn't servicable, but there is no leak around the shaft. I am wondering if the extra o-ring should be on the bolt inside the barrel. There are two ports in the end of the barrel where I put the new o-rings.The last time I took it apart,I found an o-ring in my kit that would fit in the chamfer around the pressure relief ball. The extra o-ring that came with the others may fit on the threaded bolt inside the barrel, but I'm not sure which end it would go on-maybe next to the small spacer washer? It was recommended that the o-ring should go around the plug in the end of the barrel, but there is no groove for it to sit in, so it would only get squezzed between the barrel and the flange and destroyed.I would like to take the cylinder off one more time and fix the problem. All suggestions are greatly welcomed!
