Looking at a 1966 Case 930 Gas tractor with a standard front end. Case lists this as a 940 model. How many of those 940 tractors were built in 1966? How many during the other years of the production run? Thanks in advance.

They will fine if you have a refinery along to keep it in fuel if you use it much. The diesel model would be much cheaper to use in the long run.

I always felt if the only thing wrong with a tractor is it uses $50.00 more fuel a year, then that is worth owning. Years ago when my uncles large family was grown up and gone from home he still went and bought a big Mercury station wagon. Pa asked him why you want that big gas hog when there is only the two of you to ride around? His reply==if I go broke, it's not going to be because the car only gets 10 mpg.

CatGuy; Get real-!!. In that time frame there were many Gas and LP fueled tractors. Their cost/ consumption ratio played out very well at that time. I highly doubt that Massey 33's 940 tractor will become his primary tillage tractor. It takes gas, or higher priced diesel fuel to develop HP, no mater the brand or color.

Loren: We had an 830 gas just running a McKee chopping dry hay then blowing it in the barn would use 60 gallon in a day at first. They came out and weened it down to 30 still sucked fuel. Could run a 930 diesel on the same job for half the fuel doing the same work. Now who needs to get real.
The gasser needed a refinery to feed it if you did any heavy work. That tractor didn't plow either.

All of the data you require is on tractor data, that?s a good tractor but 1500 is a big price, they probably want more but they need to face reality.

I?m looking at it to run a 10-65 flexi coil auger from time to time, and maybe run a 5? rough cut mower a few times in the summer.

When diesel was cheap it made sense to have a diesel tractor or pickup. But now with diesel averaging 20% more than diesel it's not much saving unless you're using a large amount every year. And a gas engine will start every time in the cold weather. Then if you have to repair a diesel you're going to see a lot of the money you saved disappear!

Diesel is now at over 150% of Gas, Gas I filled today at $1.98 and diesel signs are something over $3.00 per gal.

(quoted from post at 00:45:59 11/30/18) Diesel is now at over 150% of Gas, Gas I filled today at $1.98 and diesel signs are something over $3.00 per gal.

But that's not farm diesel, it's road diesel with the taxes added. Farm diesel is less expensive.

But for small usage are you going to be able to get it delivered?. If you are using less than 500 gal a year probably not. And if he only has one tractor that uses diesel probably cannot get it delievered and have to buy in cans you will not be able to get the farm use fuel so you need to figure at what the station price is not what you can get a full truck delievered price.
