8n suddenly lost spark

My 8n suddenly lost spark, just wondering what it could be. I was cruising in third when the tractor died it wouldn't start again and found out I've got no spark. The only thing I've changed with the ignition system is a 12v coil, and a distributor cap. I was thinking it could be the condenser? I tested the points and they're just fine, I think I tested the coil but I'm not to sure how to test a coil properly.

Thanks,
Jonah

Start with a simple test light to see
how far you have power. Start at the
battery and follow the current to the
points. When you loose light you found
your problem. Of you start Willy nilly
poking around you could chase the
problem a long time.

With the front mount, about all you can do is determine there is voltage getting to the coil.

Beyond that, the easiest and only practical way, is to remove the distributor and bench test the connections and components.

To test the coil primary with an ohm meter, a 12v coil should have about 3 ohms resistance across the power in terminal and the connection to the points. Or temporary 12v to the coil, ground the connection to the points, then remove the ground and it should make a spark each time the ground is removed.

Condensers rarely go bad out of the clear blue. Point on the other hand can and if you have it 12 volts the ballast resister can go bad out of the clear. Also one cannot look at points and tell if there good or bad ne has to check them with a spark test or a meter. Your ignition switch can go bad out of the blue also or maybe a wire fell off or shorted out. So try this. Run a hot wire from the ignition side of the battery to the coil and try to start it. If it starts then your problem if from the coil back. No start in the distributor and likely to be bad or dirty points. Had that problem the other day when I was working on a tractor. Points looked good but where corroded badly
