winter diesel fuel

sort of new to diesels. now have 2, one with a 6.2 gal tank and one with a 19 gal tank. the big tank is on a Toro mower with a 58hp Kubota diesel. Bought winter additive. consensus seems to be it is best to fill tanks to avoid condensation. etc. Is there any downside to burning winter grade with anti icing fuel in the summer? I probably will not use the Toro until late in the summer after a new lawn is put in.

No Bill your Kubota will burn the winter treated fuel and you will never know the difference, just keep clean fuel filters and enjoy the Kubota powered Toro.

Why out in winter fuel if you won't run it til summer?

I run Power Service year round. I mix it in my storage tank when I fill it.

The biggest difference between winter fuel and summer fuel is the kerosene to fuel oil ratio. Most summer fuels are 60% fuel oil, 40% kerosene. Winter fuels run at least 60% kerosene. The farther north you live the higher the kerosene ratio tends to be. I know loggers in this area want 70% kero in their winter fuel. As mentioned, you'll never know the difference running winter fuel in the summer.

It will run on it fine, but fuel consumption will be higher due to less heat content because of the higher concentration of kerosene.

Your engine will make a little less power with winter fuel versus summer fuel but unless you are working the machine to it's limits you are not going to notice much if any difference in power or fuel consumption.

One year the price of diesel around Christmas was the lowest I had seen it in years so I had about 800 gallons of winter delivered.
It was enough to get me through the winter and most of the next summer.
Used it in tractors, dump truck, wheel loader etc and can not say there was enough of a difference to notice on any of them.
