I came across a video of Lajord 128 SE of Regina and 40,000 acres in the operation. That's hard to imagine. A comment by another poster said that's small compared to Brazil where there are 100,000 to 150,000 acre farms.

In the North Dakota area where I grew up I am aware of 12,000 to 15,000 acres per one operation and I thought that was insane.

There are 100,000 acre farms in Alberta. 12,000 acre farms are getting to be common here in MT. That is what we run.

Is that the one with their own rail siding? That is a huge farm and there are none that big around me. I think there are a couple in the 10 to 20 thousand range but the majority are smaller. I guess huge mega farms are the way of the future but its not my way. I'm happy to stay under 1000 acres.

Grandpa Jarnot worked as a herdsman for the Dalrymple Farm back in the day. I recalled Grandma having a big picture of 28 stacks of grain and you couldn?t see the whole field. Here?s a sampling.

Bonanza farming yes. There are books about that written by Hiram Drache. I own those books and have read them. Drache was a professor at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and owns farm land in that area. He is a native of Meriden, MN which is about 10 miles from where I live.

One of the really big farms in Saskatchewan dates back to 1882 before we even called it Saskatchewan. The Bell Farm included 53,000 acres. It did not last a decade. The old stone round barn (restored) is now a historic site.
