1954 TO30 with a 1946 Ferguson A0 14 plow. I need to do a valve job on it this winter. It isn't really kicking out enough power to
pull the plow thru gummy soil.

Is there a question here? or is it just a blanket statement.those little tractors didn't have much power, even when new.

No question. I wanted to post a picture with the post but I couldn't get it to up load. Something has changed. As for the tractor, the engine is tired and needs some TLC.

Probably need more than a valve job. Like a full overhaul. Run a compression check to find out.A valve job alone will cause it to use more oil,due to changes in internal pressures.Doing valves on an older tired engine is useually a waste of time and money. Do it right. Good luck!

I learned many years ago do the top and blow the bottom out or do the bottom and blow the top. Or in other words if you do only the valve the rings will go shortly there after

If it is running on all four, a valve job is not the answer to a tired engine. If it is using oil and smoking out the breather, and or exhaust, it needs a rebuild.
