Military battery terminals

Anybody have any experience with them. I
had to buy two new batteries for my 2510
and I am replacing cables as well. The
cables themselves are fine but the cheap
ends they put on them are bad. I've had
some break the first time they were
tightened down. These look heavier and if
they do go bad are easily replaced. Looks
like they would be easier to hook up a dual
battery system and I could use heavier
cables as well. Never seen this style in
person before.

I put those on my 2006 Colorado. The GM OEMs were light and broke the first time I tried to undo them. I had to solder a ?4-0? Eye connector onto the ends of the wires. When the battery needed replacing recently, one was a bit hard to get off the terminal, but its still works and if it gets too marred up, easy to replace again in the future.

When I actually get a tractor with electric start (I still hand start the WC), I would probably use them again.

Looks like another spot for a poor connection/corrosion. Just get the right cables. Or have new ends crimped on old cables then solder and heat shrink.

There are no "right" cables for my tractor. It originally had one battery. I installed a second because it is my winter feeding tractor and I need it to start in any weather. As far as soldering new ends on show me where there are decent ones made and I'll try them.

In the military we used them whenever two cables were required to run off a battery, otherwise just the regular style terminal was used. Vibration can be an issue with them and the cable connection was checked as part of the pre operation inspection due to poor conductivity if the cable loosened.

Just abolish those silly ends, with cable ends that have eyes. Then mount the battery on the side of the frame so it will fit, instead of those crazy places the maker designed. The 31 group batteries have studs, and no fooling around with stupid clamps that are always deformed.

That's probably the most practical decision but I won't do that. Every time I go to a sale and see a tractor with batteries hanging off the frame the first thing I think is what else did they botch together. I understand it would actually be better but I like them tucked away underneath the platform out of the way. Besides I just spent $400 in batteries this week. I intend to use them.

I've had slightly better luck with napa terminals than any others I've tried. I was hopeful these would be better. I've read offroaders seem to like them.

That's not really what I wanted to hear but it is what I needed to hear. I might rethink them. Thank you.

Nothing wrong with the 3et if your smart enough to know how to do battery maintenance and then do it

I got 7 years out of this last set. One got a short though. I suppose I shouldn't complain about 7 years but they still seem expensive for what they are. As long as I can get them that's what I'll continue to use even though the local jd dealer refuses to sell jd batteries. Had to special order this set from a different dealer.

Kansas4010 I looked on jdparts and they show the cables you need, I guess they are not available. Uses the same cables for one battery or two.

I've had good luck with Fusion solder on battery cable ends.
Available from 1/0 to 4/0 in straight, flag barrel, right and left ends in either positive or negative. They come preloaded with solder and flux. You just strip the cable and insert it.
I've never had one fail. And I don't need a high dollar crimp tool.

The world is full of battery cable lugs napa should have a good selection of them... If the cable and lug are sized correctly a good crimp will do the trick... Seal with silicon dielectric compound and use heat shrink tube'N

No I don't like those military cable ends if I had to go that route I would use marine battery terminals...

Yes, I have used them with good results. Ordered then at napa. I think they were identified at napa as a military item.

No choice on a 4020. Listen to Cat Guy, abolish those lead ends.

Since I mounted the batteries in a non stock position I wonder what else I cobbled up after I soldered and heat shrinked the battery ends.

they look good I will look for them my self. I like to add a SS washer where the nut tightens up on the lead terminal, need to notch one side of the washer first. stan

The military style clamps as shown by the OP IMO are a good clamp. Our tanks, both the older 60 series and the M1 had 12 batteries hooked in both series and parallel. Even on tanks we had few very problems with them. To my knowledge they were used on the MUTTs, (M151 jeep) deuce and a half/5 tons, personnel carriers and other off road ruff terrain combat vehicles. In 20 years I can only recall a few times when a clamp went bad. Most often because some PVT who didn't know any better would overtighten them.

The studs are ⅜", battery size is 31, rating is around 925 CCA, OTR truck dealers stock them by the pallet and price is right. They custom make 0 and
00 sized cables for you also at very reasonable price.

I bought several of them once and made up new cables with some 4/0 welding cable. Replaced the ones on my truck & a couple of tractors. Ive been real happy with them. Both the truck & tractors have multiple cables coming off one terminal and these work well for that.
