International 275

Could anyone please tell me what battery I should have on an old International B275 approx. 1966. I have been using one that is 64AH that has now died. Would that be ideal. The tractor has been converted to 12v Alternator. Many thanks Richard

The battery is quite old. The tractor was already converted to 12v when I bought it about 3 years ago. Unfortunately in a mad moment I connected the battery up with the wrong polarity and burnt out the wire from the alternator to the solenoid. That is why I am replacing the battery. It seems to make sense to make sure I replace the battery with a correct AH rating. Thanks

I'm no battery expert, but my understanding is that when an AH number is given, there should also be a length of time. For example, 65AH @ 1hr = 6.5AH @ 10hr = 3.25AH @ 20hr[/color:237665f745]. The number tells the amount of capacity that the battery has for doing what it needs to do. As I understand it, all of the ratings in blue[/color:237665f745] are equal....[b:237665f745][i:237665f745]but[/i:237665f745][/b:237665f745] I'm probably wrong. *lol* Seems like it would be better to match up CA (cranking amps) or CCA (cold cranking amps) to what you have.

As this is an older battery, I'd recommend taking it in to any auto parts store and having it bench tested. They "should" also be able to match the battery.

Don't know what AH rating is, and have survived 70 years and about 50 tractors without that knowledge. The first rule of batteries is to measure your battery area for what will fit, and buy the biggest CCA battery that will fit. Take a tape measure with you to Walmart, which is where you should buy said battery. A bigger battery than what it came with will not hurt anything, but will give you extra starting power.

I agree 100% Have Walmart batteries in two diesel tractors now and had them in a diesel 3/4. Usually highest CCA for least cost and perfect warranty.
