360 Long tractor

I have a 360 Long tractor. I was using it to bush hog. I put it in neutral and got off of it. I got back on it and pushed the clutch pedal down, put it in gear, let on the clutch and the tractor will not move. It was fine until then. I had been shifting to reverse and back to forward without a problem. It seems to be going in gear, no grinding but it will not move. Any suggestions of what the problem may be?

From what you are saying, you probably have it stuck between 2 gears. Does it sound like it's gonna die when you let the clutch pedal up, like it's in a hard pull? If it does then that's probably what's wrong. I don't have any experience with that Long but a Massey is known for it when the gears get a little worn. I remove the fill plug on my Massey and with a long screw driver of small bar, slide the shifter rails to the point where the shifter is back in place and I'm good to go. Trick is to shift positively and not just slide the shifter. Keith

If it kills the engine when you let the clutch out, probably in 2 gears.

If the engine runs, but no movement, does it have a high/low selector? If so maybe it's between gears. Otherwise, something is broken. You'll need to peek in the transmission through a fill plug or inspection cover, see what's turning, or not.

If nothing is turning in the transmission, it's probably the clutch hub broken, or the input shaft.

If the transmission is turning, in gear, could be the rear pinion, an axle. Some have a shear sleeve to protect from overload, but that it broke not under load, probably not that.

Just be careful, it could decide to grab and take off while you are looking at it. Might want to jack one rear wheel off the ground.

My guess is you lost a cotter pin in the
shifter fork. Put it in neutral and pull
the top of the tranny to confirm.

Hi, does that tractor have high and low speeds on one shift
lever? Some times when you are rushing and not smoOth
deliberate shifting you will get the inner tip of shifter slip
out from between the rails. Just taKe the top off the tranny and
move the slots in the rails to line up then carefully put the
inner shifter tip in one of the slots and fasten the top back
on. Easy peasy! Just annoying. You can build the tip up with
weld so it can't slip out. Ed Will Oliver BC

Yes it has one shifter for high and low range. It does not try to die when I let out on the clutch. When I shift it into gear if feels like it goes into gear but when I let out on the clutch it won't move.

Yes I would. It does not have a high/low lever that I know of. It only has one shifter. I can push the clutch in and engage the PTO and let out on the clutch and the bush hog will turn.

It does not try to die when I let out on the clutch. I can push in the clutch and engage the PTO and let the clutch out and the PTO shaft will turn and operate the bush hog.

When you put it in gear can you actually feel the gears going against each other? 2)What happens if you try to put it in gear without pushing in the clutch? I had the shifter get very worn on a AC 5040 (same transmission) and the end of the shifter was out of the slot.

Hi, is that the transmission that has hi and low on one stick,
2 H patterns one above the other? Thats not uncommon. Take the
top off the tranny and align the slots in the rails. Then just
put the shifter guide into a slot and carefully replace the
tranny lid. Easy, Peasy. Ed Will Oliver BC

I can put in gear without pushing in the clutch. No grinding, goes right in same as when the clutch is pushed in.

It feels like it is going in gear. Maybe it is not since it is not grinding. I will check what you are saying.
