Genie boom lift

I have a 1997 45/26 genie boom lift that runs on LP. Needs a shot of starting fluid before it will start after that it runs fine. Shut it off and it will not start again without starting fluid even after its warmed up. I'm not familiar with LP, any ideas? Thanks Mark

See if your regulator is old enough to have a primer push button in the center. Traded in my MM LP in mid 80's so it's been a while. If this is a NEW problem check to regulator to make sure mud dobbers haven't plugged the hole where the regulator senses atmospheric pressure.

Where I work part time is a propane forklift. It was hard starting even after tune ups. Someone discovered it works a lot better if the tank valve is barely cracked open before starting (shut off when not in use).

Have you tried a set of plugs, maybe wires? Weak spark, worn plugs can cause hard starting. There is probably a mixture adjustment near the throttle plate, try adjusting that, but note where you start so you can go back to where it was if no improvement.

If that doesn't do it, likely something is up with the regulator.

The regulator has to sense that the engine is turning over. It responds to the slight vacuum in the intake, saying it's OK to flow fuel.

I would be very afraid to try adjusting it without the proper procedure. Get it wrong and it can be an explosive condition.

Look around for a shop that deals with propane equipment, like forklifts. They can probably repair it at a reasonable cost.
