Need help replacing obsolete thermostat, Kohler L600

I am trying to replace an obsolete thermostat on a Kohler L600 generator engine. The original thermostat was 1.705" (43.31mm) wide on the flange. I found an automotive thermostat, Murray 3848 that is 1.716 (43.59mm) and Kubota 1E401-73010 that is 1.729 (43.92mm). Both the automotive and Kubota thermostats will fit as far as the flange goes, but due to the two legs under the thermostat, they will not drop into the hole in the head, which is 1.377. I need to find a thermostat that will drop into the 1.377 hole without notching or enlarging the hole. The leg width is 1.427.
I am sure that a machine shop could enlage the hole slightly, but I am attempting to avoid that. I saw some Kubota thermostats on line that appeared to have the legs set in slightly from the edge of the flange, but I cannot find dimensions for the Kubota thermostats like I can the automotive thermostats.
Thanks.

If you have the part number why didn't you post it?

I come up with a Kohler 150752-2 thermostat for that engine, and there's one on ebay, auction # 182418490040.

Is that the number you are looking for?

Bob, thanks for the reply. Yes I saw that thermostat on Ebay, but it is an old bellows style and it is $45. I was figuring that there must be a modern equivalent for $5 that would be more accurate and reliable.

Well, then, get your die grinder out and make a $5 one fit!

That's what I'd do, there ain't many of us left that think like that/AKA are pathetically cheep, tho!

GO for it!
