We will be doing some tractor games at the farm after lunch. Wagon backing, tractor enduro, Slow tractor race, ect. We will give a shirt or hat and a certificate to the winners. My wife thinks this prize is tacky..."1st Tractor to die on ride"..... .what do y'all think?

That's a great idea! The club president likes to rub it in anyway when that happens to somebody,so if there was a T shirt too, that would just be icing on the cake.

Well we do live in a trophy for everyone society.

But I can see your wife's point.
You are already embarrassed that your tractor broke down and now others want to make fun of you on top of that.
It could be taken as.... You trip and fall down and others rather than helping you up stand there pointing and laughing.

I would never thought of that one ! David Moore up around Hazel Green, Alabama had the slowest tractor I ever saw. I was told it got to the point if he showed up with that H farmall a lot of guys wouldn't enter the slow race. He had a whole bunch of other tractors he had customized that were really neat. He had a tractor salvage yard and I drove down there to buy some parts. He was extremely knowledgeable . Talking to him and seeing his tractors was well worth the 3+ hour drive.

Our club has what they call the gas can award fot somebody that runs out of gas in a parade.

The Rockville Indiana Covered Bridge Tractor Tour ride has a small awards ceremony after the Saturday pork chop supper. Awards for oldest driver, oldest tractor, farthest traveled, and a hard luck award for the most serious breakdown. I did get a plaque last year for driving my tractor 147 miles one way to the Rockville fairgrounds. The 560 has 3200 total drive miles as I goofed off much more this year..

Here in the UK I attend about 10 tractor road runs every year and one witch as been going over 20 years has 2 intresting trophys. One is a model of a tractor mounted on a plinth and the tractor is set on three wheels with the fourth wheel lying behind it and the second one is a cup for the joint ages of the tractor and driver witch I won two years ago at the age of 74 on my 72 years old Farmall H MJ

I would rather see it say quit running instead of die. Also someone is bound to shut off someone's gas. Have fun! joe

A few years back, one of our club members restored a JD 50,another one restored a Farmall M. They were both pristine and shared the Best of Show award. Both broke down in the parade. They pulled the JD through with a Farmall and the Farmall with a JD. Those two guys still get that rubbed in.

The last rider entering Paris in the last stage of the Tour de France is awarded the Lanterne Rouge, a red lantern he has to hang on the rear of his bike.

Those two guys would probably both remind you that it takes a lot of skill to push another tractor with a log chain!!!!!

I can see some benefit from those embarrassing trophies. Breakdowns are bad enough for the tractor owner, but they are much worst for the tractor drive organizers. A second or third driver usually has to drop out of the drive to tow the break down. The organizers have to deal with spread out groups, late arrivals at the destination and an additional road hazard for motorists. If an embarrassing trophy causes several drivers to double check that their tractors are ready and maybe leave a marginal tractor at home, then the trophy did its job. I the number of breakdowns can be cut in half or eliminated, everyone on the ride is much better off.

I like the old work clothes tractors in these deals seems they have fewer problems than the parade queens. The queens only get driven from the shed to the trailer, then back to the trailer, and on to the shed again. Washed a lot and not much work done on them after the paint and polish.
For an event that has few break downs for the number of tractors is the Mack bridge crossing. Or so it seems.

Grandpa I think thats great. It takes work to put these things on and why not have a little fun, isn't that what its all about. Nobody plans on breaking down. We have a guy in our group who probably spends more time on making sure his tractors don't break down and sure enough on our winter ride a couple years ago the fuel adjusting screw on the carb fell out. So yes it does happen, have a little fun.
