It's in the bin.....

Finished the corn this afternoon. Best crop ever, as everyone else in this area as well. My yields were a bit less than most neighbours, lighter soil, but still exceptional. Beans likewise. The Gleaner moved through almost 200 acres of wheat, soys and corn and never missed a beat. Off to see our eldest daughter in Ottawa next weekend. I can post a few pictures tomorrow.

Good feeling.

Not started on mine yet, all corn this year.

I have about half dozen big bales left, they are sold and will load them this weekend.

Can't even get the beans off here. My cusin came down to day to finish off a little strip in a field that I started plowing. I was hoping he could get it finished so I could keep plowing, but he sampled it after a few yards into the piece and it tested 18%. We had snow fluries and minor squalls yesterday down on this end of the farm.

ACG Dad asked me last year towards the end of November when I went to cut beans are they dry. I said at this late date does it matter. Last year we finished beans on Pearl Harbor Day. Then still had corn to do. Had to wait for it to freeze to get it.
This year the corn is done and half the beans and only about 50 acres of wheat to finish.
Has anybody else had corn starting to grow in the ear on the stalk this year? ADM in Grand ledge said they had had some dockage for that this year

I finished yesterday (Friday) morning. Turned out better than I expected given what the weather was,but I sure could have used that ten acres that burned up and had to be chopped. I baled some stalks Tuesday. Everything's parked. Manure to haul now, then I have to get the calves weaned and cull some cows.

There are some varieties this year that the ears didn't drop, and the husks filled with water. Not mine but on neighbors corn.

I am 80% done, corn yields have been 70-80% or a normal year, too much water early, too little late. Beans are very good locally.

Sitting inside today as the remnants of another hurricane passes over. Will be a few days til I get back out.

Good news! I never will understand why my grandfather left your beautiful country, but it was about 1875! He grew up near Florence, large family, and his father died young.

We got lucky and finished Thursday night thanks to my brother and wife, all I could do this year was supervise. All cleaned up on Friday. drier will run another half day. Crop not as good as I had hoped, crop got planted ok then too wet , then no rain. My farm needs frequent rain and not too much at a time. Maybe next year, been saying that for 45 plus seasons.

Helped my buddy finish soybean harvest yesterday, we picked just under 100 acres for the day. Dryland beans were mostly above 50bpa, irrigated in some spots were running over 85bpa.

This was my rig for most of it, shuttling full gravity wagons to him to upload at the bin site, and empties back to his son in the combine. Most of the fields are within two miles of either a set of bins or their grain leg at the homestead.

BIG WINNER day for me, the last field to pick was the furthest from home, about ten miles, so ole' K got some miles in the semi! :)

Really rusty with the Eaton Fuller Super ten, especially on the downshifts  But made it safely back, even with the grain leg being at the top of a steep hill.

yes about 75 miles north of that just off the lake shore.
Member map shows about 15 miles east of where we actually are.
