Just need some weeds to mow

I mentioned a month or so ago my 96 Dodge 3500 tranny was giving some problems. I took it to a local shop. It had a lot wrong. They rebuilt it with heavy duty parts, the only thing I remember was a shift kit. It shifts strong now. It's going to be 6 months before I can make up the 3,200 it cost. Wife said maybe I should buy another truck. If I had it would be some used truck, probably with more problems. Spending money on that transmission is like putting diamond ear rings on a pig. The truck is no beauty, but now it will tow my tractors just fine.Stan

I have bought used vehicles for years. The difference in price on a used car lot and the same vegicle on a car dealers lot is about your working amount. I have purchased two used 4W drives. Explorer and an Expedition. Front bearings, one transfer case, ignition packs, one set of calipers, a steering rack, between the two of them. I am close in price but still am a little ahead. The explorer I litterly drove the wheels off it. Had 338,000 miles. The Expedition is still going and I added 130K to that odometer. Have found that if you put all of the parts into the vehicle to get it back up to snuff and after that you just get a piddle item here and there then you did good. Especially if you like the vehicle. Your 3 grand sounds a little bit but now you got a real hauler!!

My theory also, why buy someone else?s problems when I know what my problems already are......

I have a tractor here that got a hyd pump, a new used engine, and a rebuilt rear differential in the past 4 years. I got in it about what I could sell it for on a good day.... but, I know what I got.

Different if I could afford near new, lease return or so; but any more that game doesn?t work well either, electronics and pollution controls cost more than th3 base machine, it doesn?t work out.
