What hydraulic cylinder do i need

How do i know what hydraulic cylinder i need? My tractor has a lift and hydraulics all i need is a cylinder.
Is there any advantage of running twin cylinders?
All i plan on doing is feeding hay.

Thanks

WhT TRACTOR? 3 point or an implement? Need more info. That said,a 'standard 'farm' cylinder has an 8" stroke.3 or3 1/2" is the most common size.twin cylinders will give more lift capacity but will slow down the speed of lift/lower.

Depends entirely on the make of hitch. Some are made for only one cylinder and others will only work with two cylinders. Depends on what load you want to lift a twin cylinder you might only want 2" cylinders while a single cylinder unit you might need a 4" cylinder that would have load lifting capacities of 4 of the 2" cylinders. So what make hitch do you have? What are you wanting to lift?

Measure the gap between the ram connectors when hitch is all the way up, and when it is all the way down, then go to Surplus Center and order what you need. A 3 inch should be ample. Whether you need 1 or 2 depends on whether your hitch is set up for one or two. If its set up for one cylinder, it will be perplexing trying to put a second one on.

Most aftermarket 3pt hitches are designed around the common 8" stroke "ASAE" type cylinder. An ASAE style cylinder has a closed dimension of 20-1/4" and an extended dimension of 28-1/4".

IF your hitch has provisions for two cylinders, use two cylinders.
